The Office of Academic Personnel (OAP) is the central institutional portal and resource for academic personnel administration and plays an important role in helping UW fulfill its mission. We invite applications for a Senior Computer Specialist (E S 9) to join our team in developing and delivering core information and technical services critical to academic personnel operations.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost or designee, you will draw upon technical and analytical skills to gather, translate, and join data using a variety of technologies and information systems. You'll help ensure OAP's technical applications and systems are well developed, trustworthy, forward-thinking, and responsibly maintained. As UW's priorities, needs, or practices shift, you'll explore how new or upgraded technologies and specialized applications might improve business processes and enable the OAP team to be nimble and responsive. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position's responsibilities span four broad categories: Programming, Data Management, Software Design, and User Interface Design. The successful candidate will have the experience or demonstrated potential to:
Take technical responsibility across all stages of software development, using predictive and iterative/agile approaches as appropriate, and ensure software construction and security meet project and organization standards
Devise data management structures and metadata to support consistency of information retrieval, combination, analysis, pattern recognition, and interpretation; plan effective data storage, sharing, and publishing; validate information from multiple sources; and assess issues that might prevent OAP from optimizing use of its information assets
Assist in selecting and developing appropriate software design methods, tools, and techniques as well as OAP standards/guidelines for software design and architectures
Assist in determining approaches to design and prototype digital and off-line tasks, interactions, and interfaces in line with the usability and accessibility requirements of the system, product, or service
Use iterative approaches to rapidly incorporate user feedback into designs; plan and drive user experience design activities providing expert advice and guidance

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Services, or related field with an emphasis on information management, or equivalent experience

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience with Python frameworks, especially Django
Experience with Linux command line
MySQL experience: queries, building databases, database security
Experience with HTML/CSS/JavaScript
Experience working with confidential data and a commitment to doing so in a professionally, ethically, and legally responsible manner
Excellent analytical skills

Candidates are encouraged to highlight if they have any of the following:
Understanding of MVC design patterns and frameworks
Experience managing, developing, and deploying Linux/Apache/MySQL/Python web applications, Unix/Linux system administration
Success working in an Agile environment
Experience with build tools and automated testing (Unittest, Jenkins, Phing, Selenium)
Familiarity with Git (Github)
Familiar with REST, JSON, HTTP
Experience managing projects related to technology development, acquisition, and/or implementation
