KPMG Canada is seeking an experienced Principal Data Protection Consultant to join our cybersecurity practice in Montreal or Quebec City. As a specialist within our cybersecurity team, you will lead initiatives focused on protecting our clients' data assets by implementing robust data protection strategies, enhancing compliance frameworks, and overseeing data security solutions. This role is essential in supporting our clients to mitigate risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain resilient data protection postures.

What you will do

Your responsibilities will include:

Technology Solutions and Implementation:
  • Implementing data loss prevention (DLP), encryption, security posture management (DSPM), and data masking solutions (Purview Security, Qohash, Proofpoint, Fortinet, BigID, etc.).
  • Collaborating with technical teams to evaluate, configure, and integrate data protection technologies, ensuring they meet clients' security and compliance requirements.


Data Protection Strategy and Governance:
  • Contributing to the design and implementation of data protection strategies that align with clients' cybersecurity objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Advising and promoting data governance policies, data lifecycle management, and protection frameworks across various environments, including cloud, on-premises, and hybrid.

Risk Assessment and Compliance:
  • Leading risk assessments, audits, and gap analyses to evaluate data protection controls and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, C-27, etc.) and aligning strategies with best practices such as NIST CSF 2.0, NIST AI, ISO 2700x, and other cybersecurity standards.

Stakeholder Advisory:
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to clients, presenting information, updates, and solutions related to data protection and cybersecurity in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Maintaining client relationships based on excellence in delivery, ensuring continuous engagement and alignment with their business and security objectives.
  • Producing service offerings, effort assessments, and project management.

Team Leadership and Mentorship:
  • Supporting the senior director of the cybersecurity team by providing mentorship, training, and support to enhance their skills and expertise in the field.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including IT, legal, and compliance, to promote a culture of data security awareness.

What you bring to the role

What You Bring to the Role:
  • Experience: 4 to 6 years of experience in cybersecurity with a focus on data protection and an understanding of privacy protection.
  • Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field; or relevant experience.
  • Certifications (assets): CISSP, CISM, CIPP, CIPM, or other relevant certifications in cybersecurity or data protection.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of data protection technologies (e.g., DLP, encryption, IAM) and cloud security solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Proven experience in advising or implementing compliance solutions aligned with GDPR, CCPA, and other data privacy regulations.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong risk assessment, analysis, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French, with the ability to present complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
