Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Controls Engineer to join our to join our Design & Build team within Rhino Tool House with specialized expertise in conveyor and material handling systems (conveyor integrated with other components such as lift tables, rotate stations, tilt tables, etc.). In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing control systems for complex industrial automation processes. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of control system design, programming, and troubleshooting, as well as the ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design & Development: Lead the design and development of control systems for automated machinery and industrial processes, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and performance.
  • Programming & Configuration: Develop control system software, including PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems. Experience with programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams.
  • System Integration: Integrate control systems with various hardware and equipment, ensuring proper communication and synchronization between devices and systems.
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Troubleshoot and resolve issues in existing control systems, improving performance, reliability, and uptime. Provide technical support to production teams when required.
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple projects from concept to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to client specifications. Work closely with cross-functional teams to coordinate project timelines and deliverables.
  • Documentation & Standards Compliance: Maintain thorough documentation of control systems, including system designs, configuration files, and user manuals. Ensure that all control systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Mentorship & Training: Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance and support for their professional growth. Conduct training sessions to improve team knowledge and skill sets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest trends in control engineering and automation technology. Suggest and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reliability, and performance.


Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, or direct experience related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems engineering, with a proven track record of successful projects in industrial automation or related sectors.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric).
    • Experience with SCADA, HMI, and DCS systems.
    • Expertise in control system design, tuning, and troubleshooting.
    • Familiarity with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
    • Experience with safety systems (e.g., Functional Safety, SIL, IEC 61508).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients.
    • Proven leadership capabilities, with experience in managing and mentoring engineering teams.
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with advanced control strategies (e.g., PID, Model Predictive Control).
  • Familiarity with simulation tools and software (MATLAB, Simulink, etc.).
  • Experience in a leadership or project management role.
