General Summary:
Represents the company and its subsidiaries as legal officer on selected matters in order to ensure that the Company's operations and policies are legally sound, and to ensure continued growth and profitability for the Company. Position can be located in Denver, CO or Irvine, CA.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Discretion and Independent Judgement:
Analyzes transactions and situations from a legal perspective based on extensive experience and independent judgment.
Provides legal counsel and makes recommendations to senior management regarding transactions and business issues.
Conducts negotiations for transactions that have a substantial financial impact.
Recommends changes to enhance/streamline communication among legal, development and construction teams.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree required
Juris Doctorate required
Experience / Knowledge / Skills Requirements:

License to practice law, as required by office location.
Salary Range: $265,000 - $280,000

Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and examines contracts pertaining to real estate transactions, including sales and acquisitions, development, design and construction, leasing, financing and joint ventures, management and operations of real estate assets, corporate governance and other corporate business. May conduct selected negotiations of same
- Be the primary attorney responsible for managing the preparation and execution of all documents for certain regions of RGDC business
- Notifies the SVP, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary, RGII ("CLO"), of proposed documents that may create substantial obligations and liabilities
- Oversees compliance with applicable laws and contractual commitments
- Supervises the work of outside counsel for RGII and its subsidiaries
- Performs selected in-house legal work
- Acts as a sounding board and resource to Human Resources and other business units on corporate legal matters
- Assists in the management of tort litigation
- Assists in creation and updating of legal form documents
- Assists the CLO in maintaining an effective communication system within the Legal Department and from the Legal Department to the corporate and subsidiary officers and department and division heads
- Assists the CLO in maintaining corporate records and documents
- Displays and maintains continuing commitment to enhancing customer service
- Performs other duties as assigned

Experience / Knowledge / Skills Requirements:
- Minimum of seven to ten years progressive experience in real estate and corporate law.
- Ability to effectively and clearly present complex legal information to tenants, top management, employees, prospective investors, government officials and the general public. Ability to read, write and thoroughly understand and apply complicated legal data
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, including decisive thinking in crisis situations. Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
- Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide variety of intellectual and practical problems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft office and related programs
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages, and to apply mathematical concepts
- Ability to work long, irregular hours, a varied schedule including weekends, and ability to return to work for emergency situations on an on-call basis
- Ability to travel to meetings throughout the United States
- Performs other duties as assigned
