Position Purpose:
The Senior Data Scientist will play a critical role in advancing the intelligence behind our Search experience, leveraging Data Science and Machine Learning to improve customer satisfaction and drive business growth. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking and business impact-identifying, designing, and leading initiatives that use advanced Data Science techniques to deliver relevant, personalized, and high-performing Search results.
As a key contributor within our Search organization, you will lead end-to-end development of Data Science solutions-collaborating cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, and has practical experience with modern language models, transformers, and operationalizing machine learning systems at scale. You will drive experimentation strategies (e.g., A/B testing) and measure model and feature impact using statistical and causal inference methods. You will also communicate insights and recommendations to stakeholders and serve as a thought leader on how AI can transform our Search capabilities. In addition, you will mentor junior team members and champion the culture of innovation, experimentation, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
- 35% Solution Development - Proficiently design and develop algorithms and models to use against large datasets to create business insights; Execute tasks with high levels of efficiency and quality; Make appropriate selection, utilization and interpretation of advanced analytical methodologies; Effectively communicate insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical leaders and business customers/partners; Prepare reports, updates and/or presentations related to progress made on a project or solution; Clearly communicate impacts of recommendations to drive alignment and appropriate implementation
- 30% Project Management & Team Support - Work with project teams and business partners to determine project goals; Provide direction on prioritization of work and ensure quality of work; Provide mentoring and coaching to more junior roles to support their technical competencies; Collaborate with managers and team in the distribution of workload and resources; Support recruiting and hiring efforts for the team
- 20% Business Collaboration - Leverage extensive business knowledge into solution approach; Effectively develop trust and collaboration with internal customers and cross-functional teams; Provide general education on advanced analytics to technical and non-technical business partners; Deep understanding of IT needs for the team to be successful in tackling business problems; Actively seek out new business opportunities to leverage data science as a competitive advantage
- 15% Technical Exploration & Development - Seek further knowledge on key developments within data science, technical skill sets, and additional data sources; Participate in the continuous improvement of data science and analytics by developing replicable solutions (for example, codified data products, project documentation, process flowcharts) to ensure solutions are leveraged for future projects; Define best practices and develop clear vision for data analysis and model productionalization; Contribute to library of reusable algorithms for future use, ensuring developed codes are documented

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field
- 6+ years of experience in Data Science, including hands-on development of models in production environments
- Strong programming skills in Python; experience with ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, or scikit-learn
- Strong programming skills in SQL; experience with cloud-based data warehouses (Google BigQuery preferred)
- Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Deep understanding of Machine Learning, neural networks, and modern NLP architectures (e.g. transformers, LLMs, etc.)
- Experience in online testing frameworks (e.g., A/B testing) and interpretation of experimental results
- Familiarity with MLOps or LLMOps frameworks and model lifecycle management
- Solid understanding of Information Retrieval systems and Search technologies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and influence stakeholders
