Job Description

Under the general direction of the Chief Medical Informatics Office and Chief Applications Officer, the Senior Director is responsible for driving forward initiatives that will improve clinical workflows across the organization and the community and manage and support the applications and project teams assigned. The Senior Director will oversee the planning, implementation, and ongoing support of implementing the Epic EHR to community partners. The ideal candidate will understand application workflows and help implement solutions for existing and new EHR and related applications and other technology supported by EITS. This role will require routine engagement with internal and external clinical and operational groups. This role will also be responsible for day to day operations, human resource management and other administrative and managerial duties needed to ensure implementation success and sustainable support.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to clinical project sponsors and project team members through the entire clinical system lifecycle.
  • Oversee the development of system requirements, system procurement, and creation of functional specifications.
  • Collaborate with departmental leadership and inter-disciplinary teams to recommend practical tools, processes, and practices that support developing effective solutions to operational issues.
  • Participate in strategic planning for new implementations.
  • Establish best practices for the program, develop a cost model.
  • Hire and manage the implementation and long-term support team with varied specialties e.g. interfaces and conversions, training, analytics, technical, revenue cycle and financial health
  • Collaborate with internal and external Application, Interface, Infrastructure and Project Management teams for implementation and support
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with client sites, managing communication within and across multiple clinical service lines and IT teams and community leads
  • Collaborate with management in day-to-day operations including personnel performance evaluations and mandatory trainings
  • Work with team members in career path development; plan and implement strategies for team members growth and development and succession planning
  • Mentor and coach staff on functionality, implementation methods, support techniques, operational workflows and business procedures
  • Mediate, engage, and unify staff within and across teams to accomplish project goals
  • Manage time, efficiency and productivity of staff
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required


Minimum Qualifications
1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Healthcare Administration, Health Care Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related discipline; and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in health and medical service administration, public administration, personnel and labor relations, finance or appropriate functional discipline with an emphasis on planning, liaison and inter-organizational relationships, or related administrative or managerial functions; or
2.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in "1" above; and eight(8) years of progressively responsible experience in areas, as listed in "1"; or
3.Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. However, all candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in disciplines, as listed in "1" above.

Department Preferences

Certification(S)/NYS Licenses/Education:
  • Epic Certification(s) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Requirements:
  • Epic EHR implementations and integrations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge/certifications
  • Epic Community Connect implementations
  • Strong knowledge of HL7 interfaces and 3rd party application integrations, revenue cycle systems
  • Preferred candidate will have significant leadership experience with 5+ years at the leadership level, be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and be able to meet high-expectations under deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation delivery
  • Strong project management skills, interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
  • Experience managing committees, teams and establishing team frameworks
  • Must be able to work independently as well as work as part of a dynamic team
  • Experience working effectively in a public health/hospital setting including long-term, acute, and ambulatory care
  • Broad knowledge of computer and communications hardware capabilities and utilization, clinical applications, programming languages, systems and programming methodology, database management and information retrieval techniques.
  • Experience implementing clinical systems in a healthcare environment.

Years of Experience:
  • 5 years of experience and at least 3 years in a managerial position
