SUMMARY:
The Senior Director of Finance & Accounting plays a pivotal role in providing both operational and programmatic support to New York Edge. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Sr. Director works in tandem with the CFO. The position is responsible for overseeing the financial analysis, planning, and accounting functions of the organization. It includes managing finances, ensuring compliance with contracts and regulations, keeping financial data up to date, and providing strategic direction on financial matters. The Sr. Director will also build and lead a finance and accounting team. They will strategize with the CFO in the ongoing functions of the department and the needs of executive leadership. The position requires working collaboratively with all departments across the organization to support strategic objectives. A key aspect of the role involves providing strategic direction on expansion and growth, ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of New York Edge. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with government contracts, particularly with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Department of Education (DOE), New York State, and federal contracts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance and accounting functions.
- Oversee the annual audit process, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Government Contract Management: - Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of NYC, New York State, and federal contracts, particularly those with DYCD and DOE.
- Collaborate with program directors to ensure alignment of financial planning with program goals and objectives.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems, including Salesforce and Sage Intacct.
- Oversee the production of monthly reports including reconciliations with funders and pension plan requirements, as well as financial statements and cash flow projections for use by Executive. Have the knowledge and ability to develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard the financial assets of the organization. Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors to ensure all audit issues are resolved, all 403(b) compliance issues are addressed, and the preparation of annual financial statements is in accordance with U.S. GAAP, federal, state, and other required supplementary schedules and information.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to the finance and accounting team, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
- Work with the CFO and the accounting and finance team to present and maintain the operating budget. Ensure programmatic success through cost analysis support and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements. This includes: 1) interpreting legislative and programmatic rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and contractual guidelines; 2) ensuring that all government regulations and requirements are in place; and 3) monitoring compliance.
- Work collaboratively with the CFO, CEO, and COO to ensure the organization's strategies are aligned with its financial goals. Together, develop and implement efficient business processes, manage budgets, and drive growth while maintaining financial stability.
- Work with the CFO to oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization, including but not limited to: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, development and monitoring of organizational and contract/grant budgets, recording and reporting of employee tax information, monitoring accounts receivable to help determine and ensure cash flow, and monitoring accounts payable to assure the accuracy and effectiveness of organizational expenditures and their relationship to the budget.
- Work closely with the CFO and the leadership team, stepping in when necessary, and attend Board and Subcommittee meetings; including being the lead staff on the Audit/Finance Committee.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Investigate cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits that the organization may offer to employees and potential employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data, and implement best practices for financial management and reporting.
- Work closely with Human Resources on compensation, benefits, and performance management.
- Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including assets purchased with government funds (computers, etc.), ensuring all are in accordance with federal regulations.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Experience with technology conversion from MIPS to Sage Intact for financial management and reporting and knowledge of Salesforce (Salesforce knowledge is helpful).

- The ability to communicate in a professional, knowledgeable and service-oriented manner and ensure department staff do the same.
- Ability to present financials to the Board of Directors under the direction of the CFO and CEO and in the absence of the CFO.
Qualifications required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
- Extensive experience with government contracts, particularly with NYC agencies such as DYCD and DOE, as well as New York State and federal contracts.
- Strong knowledge of financial management systems, including Salesforce and Sage Intacct.
- Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with a track record of building and coaching high-performing teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
A minimum of 10 years of financial experience, with at least 4 years in a senior management role, preferably in a non-profit organization. - Strong understanding of non-profit finance, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional financial analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning skills.
- Proven leadership abilities and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the board, executive team, and department heads.
