Hours: Full-Time, Exempt Position

Wage Range: $85,054.47 - $96,662.36 annually

Job Mission

The Senior Director of Advancement supports our young people and contributes to organizational success by optimizing NWYS fundraising & events, donations (monetary, in-kind & volunteers), MarComms, grant and contract management, and NWYS data. This position is responsible for envisioning, creating, and implementing collaborative strategies that are integral to the overall health and achievement of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Agency Leadership:
  • Support the Executive Director in developing a three-year fundraising plan that supports NWYS' strategic plan objectives;
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, develop an annual budget for the fundraising activities and meet or exceed the budgeted goals;
  • Offer vision, creativity, and enthusiasm to employees and community members to generate positive thinking and best practices for NWYS Advancement;
  • Participate in creating and maintaining a workplace that values diversity and is free of racism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, and other discriminatory practices;
  • Along with all NWYS directors, participate in the Culture & Compliance Cohort to ensure quality, compliance, and care throughout the agency;
  • Prepare and deliver development-related reports, including monthly reporting to NWYS Board of Directors;

Team Management:
  • Supervise four full-time Advancement staff members (Advancement Specialist, Grants & Contracts Specialist, Data Manager, and the Data Specialist);
  • In collaboration with HR, recruit Advancement staff as necessary;
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the Advancement team;
  • Maintain and grow a team of professionals committed to mission delivery;
  • Lead the Advancement team in an annual review and revision of the long-range strategic plan to advance stewardship of funders, donors and prospects;
  • Coordinate and delegate tasks within the Advancement team and ensure timely and effective deliverables;

Fundraising & Events (in collaboration with Advancement Specialist):
  • Create and implement proposals for cultivation strategies and fundraising events, programs, and activities;
  • Create communications for fundraising, including introductory letters, and follow up letters;

Monetary and In-Kind Donor Management (in collaboration with Advancement Specialist):
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors and prospective donors;
  • Manage the organization's database of donors and prospects (currently Little Green Light), ensuring all information is accurately recorded, up to date, and organized;
  • Complete future and active donor contact reports on a timely basis;
  • Ensure all incoming donations meet local, state, federal, and organizational guidelines and regulations;
  • Ensure compliance with privacy regulations regarding donations;

Volunteer Management (in collaboration with Advancement Specialist & HR):
  • Develop a volunteer recruitment and participation plan to support organizational programs, events, and activities;
  • Recruit and onboard new volunteers, and offboard exiting volunteers;
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records on volunteers;
  • Monitor volunteer assignments for quality and effectiveness; help volunteers and site leaders to make improvements where necessary;

Marketing & Communications (in collaboration with Advancement Specialist):
  • Develop and implement a plan to increase local and state-wide awareness of NWYS;
  • In partnership with the Comms Cohort, steward and participate in public relations efforts;
  • Attend and/or participate in events to promote the organization's mission and raise awareness of its work;
  • Establish and maintain organization-wide procedures to steward the organization's voice and brand identity;
  • Ensure the production of an annual report, quarterly newsletters, and other necessary communication materials;

Grant & Contract Management (in collaboration with Grant & Contract Specialist):
  • Oversee the full grants and contracts lifecycle-from prospect research to post-award reporting;
  • Develop annual and long-term grant and contract strategy, setting goals for revenue and identifying key funding priorities;
  • Regularly assess the viability of pending proposals, flagging potential risks and opportunities. Work closely with leadership to determine strategic approaches for high-priority grants and contracts, adjusting tactics based on outcomes and funder feedback;
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and easily accessible information on agency contracts and grants;
  • Innovate in grant and contract management systems, leveraging data and analytics to inform strategy and enhance organizational effectiveness;
  • Maintain relationship with grant providers and contract partners;
  • Liaison between contract partners and agency programs to ensure contract compliance;
  • Lead NWYS through contract audits;

Data (in collaboration with Data team)
  • Ensure data team is able to track highly accurate data regarding the services NWYS provides for post-award reporting;
  • Ensure clean, consistent, organized, and accurate flow of data throughout the agency;
  • Ensure agency data is accurate, organized, and easily accessible for fundraising efforts and reporting needs; and
  • Leverage programmatic data, demographic information, and impact metrics to craft compelling, evidence-based narratives in proposals and reports. Collaborate with the data team to ensure accuracy and alignment of information presented to funders.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, business management, marketing, non-profit management, fundraising, or related field, or four years related experience;
  • And five years of successful experience in non-profit advancement/development work;
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with Board Members, donors, colleagues, consultants, and members of the community;
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously;
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in donor management and coordinating donor-centered fundraising and event planning resulting in gifts in the five to six figure range;
  • Demonstrated experience with grants and contracts;
  • Ability to accept feedback, take direction, and be accountable for outcomes.
  • Passion for the organization's mission, programs, and core values.
  • Genuine commitment to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must be 21 years of age or older; and
  • Must pass relevant background checks.

Required within first 30 days of employment:
  • CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne pathogens certifications required;
  • A negative TB test; and
  • Full understanding of the CPS reporting requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Has experience securing a $1,000,000+ donation; and
  • Has lived experience.
