OBJECTIVE: To co-create and implement strategy that drives philanthropy and advocacy in support of COSI's mission to engage, inspire, and transform lives and communities. The Senior Director of Individual Giving serves on the Philanthropy team and shares responsibility for cocreating and implementing departmental-level strategy for the Philanthropy, generating new ideas to build a dynamic, compelling fundraising program, and driving high performance. In addition, the Senior Director of Individual Giving will oversee the successful execution of strategy specifically focused on elevating revenue from individual donors, expanding COSI's existing donor base, enhancing relationships with volunteer leaders, supporting campaign execution, and delivering exceptional customer service.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS / EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Ideal candidate possesses strong strategic thinking and organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills, including public presentations; is agile and adaptable; and reacts quickly to changing circumstances. Experience building networks and partnerships to achieve a desired outcome, and comfort in the philanthropic community are essential. Financial literacy, with an understanding of numbers and an ability to track, analyze, and share financial data in an accurate and comprehensive way. A bachelor's degree, advanced fundraising knowledge, and at least seven years of progressive professional development experience is required.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
  • The Senior Director of Individual Giving serves on the Philanthropy leadership team, and is responsible for co-creating departmental-level strategy, and shares accountability to achieving department goals and objectives in partnership with the Vice President and other Senior Directors.
  • Provide support to the executive leadership team and President as appropriate with regard to execution of high-level fundraising strategy.
  • Provide overall leadership for COSI's individual giving program. Responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies and giving opportunities that drive revenue growth and increased engagement with individual donors, including annual giving, major gifts, planned gifts, and campaign cultivation. The Senior Director is also responsible for developing cultivation, stewardship and recognition plans for the individual giving program.
  • Support successful execution of a capital or comprehensive campaign in partnership with the Vice President by overseeing the implementation of campaign fundraising strategy, supporting the campaign steering committee, and maintaining tracking and reporting of data.
  • Provide management oversight of both the COSI Community Board, a leadership-level volunteer board comprised of 50+ members engaged in advocacy, outreach and fundraising for COSI; and the Kinetic Board, a volunteer board for emerging leaders in our community, also focused on advocacy, outreach and fundraising on behalf of COSI. This includes strategic meeting planning to inform, engage and seek input from these stakeholders, and support the defined projects and initiatives in which they lead and engage.
  • Maintain an active portfolio of major gift donors/prospects, work closely with internal and external stakeholders to generate and sustain philanthropic support for COSI, and provide relationship coordination and strategic support as needed for the executive leadership team and board members to engage with fundraising.
  • Monitor financial accountability and performance for the individual giving team, leveraging reporting and analytics in Salesforce.
  • Provide coaching and support to members of the Philanthropy team with regard to their roles and responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and personal accountability, both within the department and across other divisions at COSI.
  • Develop a rich understanding of COSI's mission, vision, strategic plan, and portfolio of giving opportunities including giving programs, sponsored assets, recognition levels, and benefits to ensure consistency among COSI's donor programs.
  • Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  • Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and volunteer Team Members and Guests.
  • In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Philanthropy.
