The Senior Director, U.S. Payer Accounts is responsible for executing the U.S. Market Access strategy across national and regional payers. This pivotal leadership role involves close collaboration with US Market Access colleagues, commercial leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive strategic direction, manage business performance, and build strong relationships with key payer organizations. This field-based position reports to the Executive Director, U.S. Payer Field Role and has the potential to be fully remote, with travel requirements of 50% or more based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Execution
  • Develop and execute national and regional payer strategies for current and future product indications, ensuring appropriate formulary access for eligible patients.
  • Provide strategic insights and payer feedback to internal cross-functional teams, including Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Executive Leadership, to optimize access strategies.
  • Coordinate execution of brand access strategies with teams managing national health plans, PBMs, and regional affiliates.
  • Drive execution of account strategies that align with business goals and customer needs while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.


Payer & Account Management
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key national and regional payers, PBMs, and state Medicaid organizations to drive access and reimbursement strategies.
  • Support account teams in negotiating payer contracts and implementing access agreements to ensure appropriate patient access to medicines.
  • Educate internal and external stakeholders on payer operations, reimbursement policies, and strategic planning considerations.
  • Lead and oversee payer-related account activities, ensuring alignment across all internal stakeholders and adherence to launch priorities.


Performance Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Establish key performance metrics to measure payer strategy success and provide strategic guidance to senior leadership.
  • Organize and oversee key customer meetings, mobilizing teams across Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Executive Leadership.
  • Partner with internal teams to develop and refine payer and reimbursement materials, ensuring alignment with business objectives.


Qualifications
  • B.S. degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At or near 12 years of experience, including 10+ years in biotech/pharmaceutical payer account management, preferably in oncology or rare disease.
  • Experience leading national payer strategies and managing relationships with commercial payers, Medicare, Medicaid, PBMs, and state government agencies.
  • Prior experience launching products in the U.S. market, particularly within rare diseases, is highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. payer trends and established executive relationships with key payer organizations.
  • Ability to analyze complex business problems, develop strategic solutions, and implement effective tactical programs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to align work efforts across multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in an emerging commercial company is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise strong business judgment, and take initiative within role scope.
  • Ability to travel 50% or more based on business needs.


Salary Range: $225,000.00 to $285,000.00 . Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
