The Lansing Board of Water & Light has an opening for a Senior Energy Program Manager with our Energy and Eco Strategies Department, located in Lansing, MI.

Job Type: Full-Time
Starting Salary Range: $91,746. - $111,930.


Position Summary:

Responsible for administering and evaluating the success of the BWL's Carbon Neutrality Programs, specific but not limited to the Energy Waste Reduction (EWR) Programs. This includes program design, development, daily administration, public education and outreach, analysis of data, and reporting of program metrics. This position interacts with multiple BWL departments, external contractors, customers, and the greater Lansing community to ensure the success of program delivery and participation and support the utility's carbon neutrality goals.

Essential Functions:
  • Administer and oversee daily operations of BWL's customer-facing EWR programs in support of BWL's Carbon Neutrality Portfolio.
  • Effectively communicate in writing and orally with employees, management, other BWL departments, customers, and outside agencies.
  • Collaborate with trade allies, outside contractors and community groups, and oversee outreach coordination to promote BWL's EWR and other Carbon Neutrality Programs.
  • Attend public meetings and make public presentations to promote BWL's EWR and other Carbon Neutrality Programs.
  • Develop and execute marketing tactics and networking strategies to promote EWR and Carbon Neutrality Programs and initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain, and report statistics that measure the performance for the BWL's carbon neutrality and clean energy goals, including state and federal reporting requirements and requests.
  • Maintain Carbon Neutrality Portfolio budget and quarterly variance reports and report to company leadership as requested.
  • Oversee evaluation, measurement and verification (EM&V) processes associated with the successful implementation of EWR customer rebates and achieved energy savings targets.
  • Support the strategic objectives of BWL through data analysis and reporting when requested, such as for integrated resource planning.
  • Keep abreast of new regulations, technological developments, programs, and grant and funding sources in areas of responsibility, and communicate information effectively internally and externally to the company.
  • Develop materials for and participate in request for proposals (RFPs) for outside contractors, vendors, and services.
  • Attend training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA.
  • Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Job Specifications:
Required:

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, Economics, Energy Industry Program Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Sciences or related energy field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and related work experience.
  • This position requires a minimum of eight years' professional experience in a related field.
  • The following competencies are important for success in this position: excellent written and oral communication, data analysis and management, results driven, internal controls/integrity, customer service orientation, business acumen and safety consciousness.
  • In depth knowledge of different types of electrical equipment and appliances used by industrial, commercial, and residential customers. Knowledge of public, customer-facing programs such as energy efficiency, electric vehicles, customer owned renewable energy, or other carbon related programs.
  • Strong customer service orientation, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated technical aptitude.
  • Self-starter and creative thinker that can work independently for most actions and decisions.
  • Experience with public outreach and community related events and initiatives with an ability to give presentations on behalf of Department programs.
  • Participate in some evening and weekend events.
  • Experience administering and growing customer benefit programs such as Energy Waste Reduction, and/or low-Income programs.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and reporting requirements of pertinent local, state, or federal mandates.
  • Proficient/Advanced level in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Must have a valid MI driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Required to follow BWL's Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment as required.


Preferred:
  • Experience working for an electric utility.
  • Familiarity with BWL customer base and service area.
  • Energy Auditing.
  • Certified Energy Manager.
  • Understanding of government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and business management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Budgeting and/or financial management.
  • Program Development.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the working day. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office environment including the use of stairs. Constantly operates a computer, and other office equipment. Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen. Must communicate frequently with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing. May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments, and uneven terrain. Occasional on-call and after-hours work may be required to address environmental emergencies. May be required to recognize small numbers, letters, symbols, colors on prints, and/or operate field instruments/equipment.

Works in temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.

Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable).
