Position Summary
The Sr. Director of Engineering leads the Engineering function and staff matrixed between two business areas. The businesses span a diverse set of technologies including systems, hardware, software, and firmware development for space and terrestrial environments. This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the President of Trident Systems that works closely with the senior leadership team to achieve business objectives. The Sr. Director of Engineering is responsible for developing and leading strategic initiatives, satisfying program staffing demands (including business development and proposal support) with appropriate talent, driving execution to meet commitments, new business support, proposal estimates, process compliance, growing talent, and leading continuous improvement efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive functional execution excellence across a portfolio of programs and technologies to meet technical, schedule, and cost commitments
- Forecast, plan, and lead staff hiring ensuring adequate resources to execute work
- Manage staffing of engineers to programs
- Support new business and proposal efforts including engineering approach, ensuring accurate engineering bid estimates, and participating in reviews
- Develop and execute strategic plans to ensure the function is able to support business objectives
- Responsible for maintaining process and standards adherence for the function
- Lead functional and leadership development for the Engineering team ensuring appropriate staff growth and development, availability of key skills, talent pipelines, and succession plans
- Establishment of functional metrics to track performance and inform data driven decision making
- Building a culture of continuous improvement using metrics and standard techniques to achieve measurable performance improvements
- Interface with customers and other external parties as needed to represent Trident and the Engineering function
- Drive designs for producibility and support Operations as needed in issue resolution and strategic initiatives
- Ability to support travel or off-site work, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in a relevant Engineering discipline
- 15+ years of experience in Engineering, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering groups in complex electronics and software development
- Experience in the Aerospace and Defense business, with experience in Space Electronics preferred
- Extremely well-organized, ability to work multiple complex initiatives simultaneously
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including authoring presentations/briefs and presenting to large, technical audiences
- Demonstrated track record in an engineering leadership position, with the ability to build an effective team and promote a positive workplace environment.
