Description

The Senior Executive Director has the primary responsibility of developing and implementing the College's experiential approach to students' career planning, aligning career learning and exploration with the rapidly changing world of work. The Senior Executive Director will oversee the Office of Internships and Career Development and will be a collaborative partner with the Labor Program and Academic Affairs. The leadership position will develop innovative career experiences, such as on/off-campus internships, career pathways, summer co-ops, or professional development programming. The position offers the opportunity to create innovative forms of career learning and development, such as life design or career competency approaches. The Senior Executive Director will collaborate with the College's many unique experiential employment spaces, such as the Farm, Forest, Student Craft, and Boone Tavern. A central component of the position will be creating partnerships with local and national employers. This position will lead the College in a student-focused, future-focused emphasis on new career experiences and preparations.
Examples of Duties

  • Oversee and support Office of Internships and Career Development
  • Create and implement experiential approaches to career readiness; develop new career directions aligned with the future of work
  • Collaborate closely with Labor Program as well as College's experiential work sites, including, but not limited to, the Farm, Child Development Lab, Forest, Student Craft, and the Boone Tavern.
  • Collaborate closely with Academic Affairs to ensure that the career pathways and partnerships align with and enhance the curricular experiences of students.
  • Engage in strategic planning; engage in grant writing; connect to professional organizations such as the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)
  • Develop deep partnerships with business and non-profit employers; connect with the city of Berea; and support regional Appalachian career needs
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment to ensure comprehensive tracking of career placements for graduating students in alignment with new federal "Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment" rules.

Typical Qualifications

Education required to ensure success in this position:
  • Master's or bachelor's degree with relevant experience required

Experience required to ensure success in this position:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a high-level administrative position in higher education.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working directly with students in an educational and/or supervisory role.

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated competencies in strategic programming and planning around educational success for students.
  • Ability to effectively engage, develop, and supervise staff.
  • Ability to build relationships with on- and off-campus leaders, employers, and partners.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with public and private funding partners.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel experience and basic accounting knowledge and skills are required.
