Senior Financial Analyst

About the Job: In this position, as the most senior member of the airport finance team, you will provide assistance to the Manager of Finance at the Colorado Springs Airport. Your work will include all aspects of finance functions related to the Airport, including budget, forecast, accounting, grant management, rates and charges, revenue and expense tracking, cash management, the capital program, and compliance with regulatory agencies. You will also be responsible for managing the airport's financial models.

The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is a vibrant, city-owned hub in the heart of Colorado, serving as the primary gateway for the Pikes Peak Region and Southern Colorado. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will:
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget, financial models, rates and charges
  • Prepare, coordinate, and collaborate on activities such as financial reports, budget transfers, journal entries, legal review of airport agreements, and fiscal reporting
  • Research, collect, compile, analyze, and present information from a variety of sources on specialized topics, including complex financial, budgetary, and administrative issues; prepare comprehensive technical records, reports, and summaries to present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make recommendations
  • Participate in the development and implementation of financial programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation
  • Perform a variety of complex operational and analytical duties and make recommendations to leadership
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and oversite of the airport's Capital Improvement Program
  • Manage federal, state, and local grants, the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) and Customer Facility Charge (CFC) programs
  • Develop operating policies and procedures; Review, analyze, and enhance processes and work functions
  • Assist with the direction, oversight, and day-to-day decision making of the Finance team
  • Interact with local, federal, and state agencies, governing boards, banks, business districts, City Council, the Mayor's Office, Airport Advisory Council, and other City departments
  • Occasionally travel to industry conferences, workshops, or other training

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Data collection, research, and report preparation
  • Pertinent federal, state, local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Accounting theory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Collect, evaluate, interpret, and present complex information and data
  • Establish, maintain, and foster effective working relationships
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in aviation management, marketing, economics, finance, business administration, public administration, or other research-intensive field
  • Five years of full-time professional analytical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an airport environment, public sector environment, airline Industry, and/or finance industry
  • Experience using PeopleSoft Financials, Microsoft Office Suite, Tableau, Cirium Diio, and/or PROPworks
  • Experience using modern financial and business analytics tools
  • Experience working in a finance role
  • Master's degree in finance, business administration, or related field
