We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Enterprise Application Engineer to join our growing IT team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of key enterprise applications that underpin our business operations and scientific endeavors. You'll go beyond traditional administration, taking ownership from initial evaluation and proof-of-concept (POC) through requirements gathering, solution design, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization. You will ensure our enterprise systems, departmental applications and support applications are deployed with proper engineering to effectively support Recursion's rapid growth and unique operational needs in the TechBio space.

The Impact You'll Make

• Lead the evaluation, selection, proof-of-concept (POC), and requirements gathering (business and technical) for new enterprise applications and major upgrades, primarily focusing on SaaS platforms.
• Design, engineer, and implement robust, scalable, and secure application solutions, managing configuration, testing phases (UAT), and deployment into production environments.
• Apply engineering principles to operate, maintain, and continuously enhance critical enterprise applications throughout their lifecycle for optimal performance and reliability.
• Engineer and automate operational tasks, including configuration management, user lifecycle management, patching, health monitoring, and reporting, utilizing scripting languages and automation tools.
• Perform deep-dive troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex application issues, engineering permanent solutions and contributing to architectural improvements to prevent recurrence.
• Design, implement, and manage integrations between various enterprise applications to ensure seamless data flow and process efficiency, utilizing APIs, middleware, or other integration tools.
• Implement and manage security configurations, user roles, permissions, and access controls (RBAC) in line with company policies and industry best practices. Partner with security teams on audits and potentially support compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, GxP considerations). Engineer security principles (like least privilege) directly into application setups.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks related to application management, deployment, or monitoring using scripting languages or traditional automation tools.
• Explore and leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities to enhance automation, enable predictive insights (e.g., monitoring, capacity planning), optimize workflows, and improve the overall efficiency of application management processes.
• Mentor junior team members, act as a subject matter expert for owned applications, contribute to the enterprise application roadmap, manage vendor relationships, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
• Work closely with business stakeholders across various departments (Finance, HR, Legal, R&D, Operations) to understand their needs and translate them into effective application solutions. Collaborate effectively with other IT infrastructure and security teams.

• You will be joining a growing IT and Information Security team at Recursion,focused on securely implementing and operating our systems, IT Infrastructure, tools and technologies that enables Recursion to decode biology by running experiments at scale from experiment conception through successful execution. You'll collaborate with your teammates and across departments to agree on what the most important challenges and capabilities are, then figure out how to get us there.

The Experience You'll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years experience in Enterprise Application Engineering, Implementation, or Administration,
• Proven success leading enterprise application implementation and engineering, including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, deployment, and optimization.
• Strong understanding of application integration, APIs, and integration tools.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with an engineering mindset.
• Experience with scripting, automation tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Plusses: AI/ML experience, Workato, Okta

Working Location & Compensation:

This position is based at our office located inSalt Lake City. Please note that for this role, we require employees to spend 100% of their time onsite.

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is $144,000 to $176,000 (USD). You will also be eligible for an annual bonus and equity compensation, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
