Job Summary
The Senior Lab Director works in partnership with James Bryant Conant University Professor Danielle Allen on strategic and administrative leadership of the Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation, a research and public policy initiative that works on elements of healthy democracy for the 21st century and strategies for bringing it into existence. The Senior Lab Director is responsible with significant independence for ensuring program impact, raising gifts and grants, leveraging the PI's national reputation as a leader in multiple fields, and representing the institution among key constituencies and external stakeholders. Candidates must demonstrate effective leadership in an academic setting, exceptional communication and organization skills, and a track record in overseeing high impact projects. The Allen Lab is part of Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation, a global and values-driven community thatbelieves diverse perspectives are paramount to better understanding and addressing real-world problems.In fostering an environment of rigor, curiosity, and integrity,wevalue and respect different opinions, lived experiences, and diverse research and policy areas and approaches.We actively seek candidates who share our commitment and values.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 15 years of relevant professional experience in positions of increasing responsibility.

This is a hybrid position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. As a campus-based institution, we place a high value on the in-person experience, cross-team collaboration, and strong community building in order to create a vibrant campus for our students, faculty, staff, and research fellows. The position is required to work in-person on campus a minimum of three days per week during the academic year. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.

Salary Range: $99,300 - $173,900
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.

- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated commitment to making democracy deeper and more robust in the United States and around the world.
- Expertise in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Sociology, Social Sciences, or other policy-related field is strongly preferred.
- Proven leadership, managerial, organizational, communication (including public speaking/ public relations), analysis, writing, and research skills are required.
- Collaborative working style with excellent consultative and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience in academia, research lab setting or government setting valuable, as is in-depth experience working with faculty, staff and assistants.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
