Description:
We are looking for a Senior Landscape Architect to join our growing team. This role requires a strong vision for community development, a deep understanding of ecology and natural systems, and the ability to translate analysis and research into innovative design solutions. As a team leader and collaborative professional, you will work closely with company leadership, multidisciplinary colleagues at Burnside, and an extensive consultant network to deliver high-quality results from the bid phase through detailed design and contract documentation. The ideal candidate would be based out of Guelph office; however we will also consider candidates who are able to work from our Pickering, Mississauga, Hamilton or Barrie offices as well.

Role Specifics:
Reporting to the Vice President Ecology, Land Development, the successful candidate will:
- Oversee project budgets, manage consulting fees, and ensure financial accountability to senior management.
- Lead and support staff in technical project execution.
- Maintain strong client relationships, managing expectations and communications effectively.
- Coordinate workflows across multiple sectors, integrating deliverables from various consultants.
- Organize and manage digital project deliverables, ensuring efficient archiving and retrieval.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design issues in large, complex projects, incorporating GIS and other data into AutoCAD workflows.
- Oversee construction documentation and specifications, ensuring compliance with contract administration standards.
- Apply expertise in construction materials and methods, including on-site review of built details.
- Conduct precise quantity take-offs and track material usage.
- Interpret and apply planning acts, building codes, best practices, and regulatory guidelines.
- Develop compelling proposals for public, municipal, regional, and private sector clients to support business growth.
The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications, experience and skills:
- University degree in Landscape Architecture or recognized equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 to 12 years of relevant professional experience.
- Full member (with OALA seal) in good standing with the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects.
- Experience in streetscape (complete streets) solutions and designs as well as landscape designs in support of land development and transit projects.
- Experience in trail designs and park planning.
- Background in ecology is a strong asset.
- Leading, collaborating and mentoring staff in delivering coordinated landscape submissions.
- Ability to read, interpret and incorporate critical design inputs and coordinate consultant drawings including Architectural, all aspects of Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Assessments and Geotechnical Reports.
- High proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Suite is required. Experience with SketchUp is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with adaptability to multiple web-based collaboration platforms.
- Comprehensive understanding of the design process, including deliverable management, critical analysis and consultant coordination.
- Adept at preparing working drawings, grading and layout plans, planting plans, details, and specification writing.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of what is involved in the different design stages such as levels of expected design detail, communications, consultant coordination, costing, and value engineering.
- Demonstrated experience with contract administration and project management.
- Passion for working in a collaborative team environment, contributing to complex, multi-disciplinary design solutions ranging from Master Plans to full tender packages.
- Interest in systems thinking, ensuring that design decisions contribute to sustainable cities, thriving communities, and healthy natural systems.
