All positions at the Public Education Department are based in Santa Fe however some may operate through our Albuquerque office based on home address and space availability.

The Professional Licensure Bureau (PLB) provides services to educators to assist them in obtaining and maintaining their New Mexico (NM) Educator Certification. Educators are certified in many areas, including early childhood, elementary, secondary, special education, administration, ancillary and support providers, and approved endorsements. The unit also assists out-of-state/out-of-country educators in obtaining NM Certification and supports LEA's (local education agency) Human Resource departments throughout the state to meet the needs of their educators.

Why does the job exist?

This position for the Licensure Bureau at the NM Public Education Department exists to provide support to NM Districts, Charter Schools, and all licensed educators in NM. Additionally this position will work closely with other agencies and partners to develop and design an updated Licensure system to support the state.

How does it get done?

-Lead the development of an upgraded online licensure system to encompass the work of Licensure, Backgrounds, and Investigations.
-Collaborate with Department of Public Safety and other agencies as required to ensure ease of transfer of backgrounds information for educators.
-Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders on the licensure process.
-Provide technical expertise in the development and update of statute and rule as it applies to licensed educators.
-Review and issue licensure applications as needed.

All licensed educators in New Mexico. Agency customers and Licensure Bureau staff.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal Candidate may have:
-Have a background and understanding of Licensure statute and rule in New Mexico.
-Have experience in working closely with other NM agencies and vendors to move work forward.
-A minimum of 5 years in a customer facing role.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
