Job Overview / Purpose

The Senior Manager of Communications and PR is responsible for supporting and managing communications projects and initiatives related to Chartwell's reputation and brand. Working closely with the Sr. Director, they develop and execute innovative communications strategies to further enhance and safeguard Chartwell's reputation and drive business priorities. This includes cross functional work with marketing, real estate, operations and corporate partners. They manage daily media requests and issues in support of Chartwell's residences and key stakeholders.

Key Activities
  • Manages daily media inquiries on behalf of our residences and corporate partners, including the development of written statements and media pitches
  • Works closely with the real estate team to develop and execute communications plans in support of the company's real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions
  • Supports the development of public relations strategies and campaigns for a wide range of projects to optimize Chartwell's reputation and brand awareness
  • Manages crisis and issues communications in support of Chartwell's residences and corporate office to support positive engagement with key stakeholders, including residents, crisis and issue management, including the development of reputational strategies and initiatives
  • Develops and executes internal communications strategies and initiatives to enhance and support employee, resident, and family engagement, including the development of communications plan, editorial guidance, letter writing, key messaging, townhalls and events
  • Provides support for The Chartwell Foundation through the execution of internal and external communications strategies and initiatives
  • Works collaboratively with the content and social media teams to execute corporate communications and marketing strategies across our digital platforms
  • Manages external agency relationships including oversight of budget, when required
  • Oversees, quarterly and monthly reports for media and online reputation
  • This role also offers editorial oversight and strategic direction to other members of the communications team, helping to prioritize projects, meet deadlines and ensure sufficient support where needed

Education
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree from a recognized institution in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field

Experience
  • 5-7 years of communication, public relations and/or issues management experience
  • Experience communicating in a health care, seniors housing or corporate environment is an asset

Skills & Abilities
  • Effective communication skills, including excellent written, oral, and presentation abilities; an exceptional command of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and editing requirements and strong attention to detail
  • A critical thinker with the ability to understand complex issues and take immediate action
  • A strong knowledge of journalism, public relations best practices and comfort in approaching and engaging with journalists
  • In-depth understanding of print, digital and social media platforms
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively and build relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to balance shifting priorities, manage timelines with internal resources and budgets in a fast-paced work environment
  • A desire to pursue innovation, be results oriented and hold oneself accountable;
