The Role and Opportunity

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) -- Toronto is looking for a Senior Manager to join our Housing Services Program. The Housing Services program provides support to help individuals maintain their housing and access community resources to assist them in their recovery process. This position will manage a team of Outreach and Housing Workers providing community-based housing services to individuals who suffer from severe mental illness and are living independently in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Manager, Housing Services will lead and support the program staff through recruitment, orientation, and ongoing supervision. This role involves developing job descriptions, conducting performance reviews, and approving staff work hours, timesheets, and expense claims. The Senior Manager will also address staffing needs, implement corrective actions when necessary, and promote a positive, team-oriented work culture. Additionally, the position requires collaboration with community stakeholders to assess housing needs, client engagement in program planning, and overseeing funding proposals to support program growth and sustainability.

The Senior Manager will oversee financial approvals, budget management, and ensure compliance with CMHA Toronto's organizational policies. Responsibilities also include managing property leasing, maintenance, repairs, and tenant relations, ensuring housing properties meet safety and accessibility standards. The Senior Manager will represent CMHA Toronto in external committees, provide on-call crisis support for front-line staff, and deliver direct client services when required. This role also actively contributes to quality improvement (CQI) initiatives and ensures that housing services maintain a safe and healthy environment for clients and staff.

SKILLS YOU BRING

CMHA Toronto's ideal candidate will have an Undergraduate Degree in Social Work, Social or Health Sciences, Property Management or another related field. The candidate should bring a minimum of five years of experience in a management or supervisory role, with a focus on housing and property management. The candidate will have extensive experience in community mental health, housing, or supportive housing, and a strong understanding of crisis intervention and recovery principles. A deep knowledge of landlord-tenant issues and relevant legislation, including the Residential Tenancies Act and Ontario Human Rights Code, is essential. Additionally, the candidate will have hands-on experience in property management, with familiarity in areas such as building maintenance, health and safety compliance, and tenant relations.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation skills. Strong human resources management abilities are a must, including experience in staff recruitment, development, and retention. The candidate should also excel in interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to coach and build teams while fostering positive interactions and collaboration. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and consensus-building skills are essential, as is the ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks.

Required to have a valid Ontario Driver's License, access to a vehicle and insurance coverage. The candidate must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Salary: $89,995 - $104,318

Hours of Work: 35 per week
