JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-drivenprofessional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Investment Operations & Compliance.
Reporting to the Managing Director, Portfolio Strategy and Investment Risk, this position is responsible for leading the operations function in supporting OPGs Fund Management Group which oversees a portfolio of over $50 billion across the OPG pension fund and nuclear segregated funds (together, the Funds), comprising the 10th largest portfolio of assets in Canada.
Key responsibilities of this role include ensuring the overall operational efficiency of the investment program, compliance with overall fund level policies and legislation, maintaining overall fund policies and procedures, and developing and maintaining the operational due diligence framework for investment mandates. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills, be able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, and have the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manage internal and external Committee and Board meetings in respect of the Funds, including the preparation of meeting agenda and materials, coordinating with administrative staff on timelines and attendance, and presenting materials related to investment operations.
- Work closely with other members of Fund Management and internal business partners such as Corporate Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, Nuclear Waste Management Division, Risk Services and Taxation on Fund level operational, financial, and compliance functions. Manage relationships and monitor service quality of external service providers contracted by the Funds, including implementation of oversight procedures, conducting performance assessment and providing feedback.
- Manage the cash flow and liquidity needs of the Funds' financial activities. Oversee the payables/receivables functions for the Funds.
- Work closely with key investment managers, custodians, and other service providers in carrying out their operational, compliance, and operational due diligence activities for the Funds.
- Ensure suitable internal controls are established, maintained and improved in order to ensure integrity of the Funds' financial systems, and safeguard the Funds' financial assets. Lead and oversee all aspects of annual audits carried out in connection with the Funds' financial or operational activities (annual financial audit, ICOFR audit, or operational/internal audit).
- Assist Corporate Accounting/External Reporting with the preparation and review of the Funds' financial statements and related material disclosed or otherwise included in OPG's financial statements. Lead and coordinate all necessary internal certification over financial records on behalf of Fund Management.
- Manage various vendor systems and maintain integrity of the data used by Fund Management.
- Develop and maintain the budget for Fund Management, and for the Funds.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in investment management is required, with a preference for candidates who have held supervisory roles
- Communication and collaboration: strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal teams and external stakeholders effectively
- Advanced knowledge of financial and management reporting, including external financial reporting and disclosure requirements, taxes (corporate, personal and commodity), audit, financial analysis
- Strong understanding of investment operations: comprehensive knowledge of investment products, portfolio management processes, and trade settlement cycles
- Capital markets experience: familiarity with capital markets, including equity, fixed income, derivatives, and alternative investments
- Understanding of investment management and associated risks, including asset allocation, performance measurement, and investment strategies across multiple asset classes (equities, fixed income, alternative investments, etc.)
- Advanced Excel and technical skills: proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, macros), and familiarity with data analysis or database management tools (SQL, Python, or similar)
- Attention to detail: strong organizational skills with a keen eye for accuracy, particularly when working with large data sets and managing competing priorities
