What You Will Achieve
As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be key in the development and design of power generation, central utility plant, and thermal distribution projects with a focus on resiliency, efficiency, sustainability, and decarbonization. Vanderweil Power Group provides large scale utility and energy engineering services with our team of highly trained and experience engineers. We have designed more than 500 central energy plants and many miles of distribution systems. Our Long Beach office leads all Power Group projects west of the Mississippi for Vanderweil is searching for foundational employees to grow and lead our current and future project endeavors. You will have the opportunity to manage engineering efforts both internally and externally with trusted engineering partners and dynamic contractors and clients.

This position in Long Beach, CA has a salary range of $140,000 to $170,000 for a Lead Mechanical Engineer depending on years of experience, licensure, skill sets and education. You Will:
- Assure designs are complete, accurate and in accordance with good engineering practices
- Analyze and oversee mechanical systems design (overall heat and mass balance, steam, water, and airflow systems, energy efficiency measures)
- Execute and oversee calculations, equipment selection, piping, and ductwork design for construction documents
- Write reports and equipment/material specifications
- Attend field visits, meet with clients, contractors, and vendors
- Supervise engineers, designers, and other multi-discipline team members both internally (electrical, structural, and controls) and externally (subconsultants)

Essential Requirements
- 8+ years of related background with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of direct industrial/power related consulting engineering experience
- PE license preferred, must be willing to pursue licensing if not current
- Project engineering and/or management experience is a plus
- Experience with utility master planning, life cycle cost analysis, energy modeling, and hydraulic calculations
- Expert knowledge of mechanical equipment design, piping, codes, and application of standard engineering practices
- Familiar with BIM and 3D design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, and Revit
