Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: British Columbia, Canada

Compensation: The base annual salary range for this full-time role is between $117,000 to $161,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salary across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, geographic location, and business needs. Base pay is only one part of the total compensation package. Full time roles are eligible for equity and benefits. Base pay is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Description

Mechanical Engineers at Photonic design, develop, build, and test mechanical and thermal sensors and devices for our silicon quantum processors. You will create and analyze designs, run simulations and test how components interact with other aspects of the system. You are a natural trouble-shooter, comfortable stepping up to identify and address system issues. You are an excellent communicator, comfortable working in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
  • Design, prototype, build, test and improve components and mechanical systems using analysis and computer-aided design tools
  • Support team members with mechanical design
  • Follow good engineering practices for part design and management
  • Drive the successful integration, testing, support and improvement of our quantum systems
  • Analyze systems to see how mechanical devices address challenges in our quantum processing environment
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, recommend and implement corrective actions
  • Develop methodologies and processes for component fabrication and assembly
  • Analyze performance or test results and change the design or system as needed
  • Produce high-quality documentation for requirements, design, integration, test, build, and maintenance of mechanical systems
  • Manage own scope of work, including scheduling work and producing accurate estimates of effort and costs


WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
  • Undergraduate or Master's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Engineering-Physics or a related field
  • 8 years or more of industry experience in a engineering/research and development environment, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience with Solidworks CAD software
  • Experience performing thermal or vibration analysis of complex systems
  • Outstanding teamwork skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Exceptional candidates will have one or more of:
  • Experience using SolidWorks and PDM
  • Experience with vacuum or cryogenic systems
  • Experience working in a start-up environment
  • Willing to go above and beyond for the success of the team
