Mechanical Engineer- Senior Mechanical Services (includes HVAC/Fire Protection/Dust Control/ Plumbing) Lead
Will serve as the Lead or Area Lead position for the Mechanical Services group and perform all or some of the following:
Organize/plan/supervise work of project mechanical service team, provide input/maintain project schedules, develop/monitor man-power forecasts, develop/monitor project deliverables
Participating in project meetings
Work with project/client/field, ensure team performance aligned with project requirements
Perform project schedules, manage and report progress, provide material forecasts and key quantities, support procurement activities, etc.
Prepare or check project specifications and calculations, document packages for equipment procurement, support project permit, handle or participate subcontract activities
Assist in project audits
Perform squad check of vendor data and project documents and drawings from other disciplines
Travel, as required, to ensure the successful execution of project and/or department goals
Assist, as required, in the development of department standards and procedures, and team building activities
Develop client relations and other duties as assigned.
Specific Fire Protection Job Description: Capable of taking a project from green-field to as-built, including parts or all the following:
Analyze the fire hazards and assess fire risks in the scope of the project
Prepare a design criteria /design basis and communicate the design criteria with the client risk department, the project the insurance underwriters, government department or agencies, and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
Estimate fire water demand and co-ordinate within project team for fire water supply system (water source and storage, pumping, site main rings) design
Prepare specifications of fire pumps and data sheets
Prepare fire protection performance specifications
Prepare specifications for fire protection systems scope of work and installations
Produce drawings reflecting the designs for either: A) design build contractor to install, or B) a contractor to install
Prepare technical document packages for procurement of fire pumps, specialty fire suppression systems, or for a contract of fire protection design/supply/installation package
Design wet and dry s sprinklers, fire standpipe and hose systems, foam water spray, and deluge systems
Review supplier and/or contractor drawings and vendor submittals for compliance with project requirements.
Specific HVAC Job Description:
Capable of taking a project from green-field to as-built, including:
Prepare HVAC design criteria with understanding the building and facilities' design functionalities, code and regulations requirements and the user's requirements
Design HVAC systems for process buildings, electrical buildings, administration buildings
Determine the scope of HVAC required
Estimate HVAC flow rates, energy and power requirements
Prepare HVAC specifications and datasheets
Prepare technical document packages and perform technical bid evaluations for HVAC equipment packages
Check vendor drawings and submittals for compliance with codes, standards and project requirements
Specific Dust Control Job Description:
Capable of taking a project from green-field to as-built, including:
Prepare dust control design criteria with understanding the process, local governmental bodies' workplace and environmental protection regulations and current dust control technologies used in mining and metal industry
Coordinate with project team to define dust control strategies with considerations of process data, project goals (emissions/dust exposure levels) and dust management plan, system effectiveness and efficiency, utility usage and availability.
Estimate dust collection flow rates and equipment power, compressed air and water requirements
Prepare technical document packages and perform technical bid evaluations for dust collectors or dust suppression equipment packages
review vendor drawings and submittals for compliance with codes, standards and project requirements

Basic Job Requirements

An accredited 4-year bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Engineering Technology.
- 10 years of related experience.
- Previous EPCM experience as asset.
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent team player but also able to work independently

Specific Fire Protection Requirements
A member or eligible to be a member of NFPA, or SFPE
Working knowledge of North American Building Codes / Fire Codes and NFPA standards
Working knowledge of FM and IRI guidelines and requirements
Industrial projects - minimum 5 years' experience
Hands-on layout design and hydraulic calculations

Specific HVAC Requirements
A member or eligible to be a member of ASHRAE
Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards and guidelines.
Industrial projects - minimum 5 years' experience
Hands-on heating and cooling calculations, system schematics design.
Plumbing knowledge is an asset

Specific Dust Control Requirements
Working knowledge of North American occupational health and safety standards and guidelines from MASHA, OSHA, ACGIH, and NIOSH, etc . that apply to mining projects.
Industrial projects - minimum 5 years' experience
Hands-on duct collection system design including: duct sizing, pressure drop calculations, duct layouts, duct support design, fan selection, fan power calculations.
Hands-on dust suppression design including water sprays and agglomerate dust suppression systems.

Preferred Qualifications
Membership in technical society
Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
Managing and leading a large project
Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out
Practical field experience
Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
