Senior Optical Systems Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team in Sterling Heights, MI. This role focuses on the design, development, and integration of cutting-edge optical systems for advanced military vehicle platforms. The position is ideal for experienced professionals with at least 10 years of relevant experience (or fewer with an advanced degree).

What You'll Do:

• Lead the design and build of advanced optical systems from concept to production.
• Conduct architectural analysis, trade studies, requirements analysis, and engineering reviews.
• Select components, manage procurement, and oversee hardware builds.
• Develop optical specifications and comprehensive test plans.
• Design, develop, and test optical components and subsystems supporting technologies such as:
  • Thermal imaging systems
  • High-resolution color/monochrome cameras
  • Lasers, radar, direct-view optics
  • Stabilized control systems
• Support sensor and sight integration/testing on military vehicle platforms.
• Collaborate across engineering teams to ensure all product requirements are met.
• Prepare and deliver technical reports, status updates, and presentations.
• Provide technical expertise to internal stakeholders and external customers.

What You Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optics, Electro-Optical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred for candidates with less experience).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in optical systems design (or equivalent with advanced degree).
• Solid understanding of physical and geometrical optics.
• Hands-on optics lab experience, including precise alignment and calibration.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and CAD tools (CREO/Pro-E preferred).
• Familiarity with optical simulation/design tools like Zemax and NV-IPM is a plus.
• Knowledge of analog/digital video formats (RS-170, HD-SDI, DVI, DisplayPort, etc.) and distribution techniques preferred.
• Experience working with military standards and testing requirements is a plus.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Strong interpersonal, multitasking, and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and work overtime/weekends as needed.
