We are seeking a Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team in Sterling Heights, MI. This role focuses on the design, development, and integration of cutting-edge optical systems for advanced military vehicle platforms. The position is ideal for experienced professionals with at least 10 years of relevant experience (or fewer with an advanced degree).

- Lead the design and build of advanced optical systems from concept to production.
- Conduct architectural analysis, trade studies, requirements analysis, and engineering reviews.
- Select components, manage procurement, and oversee hardware builds.
- Develop optical specifications and comprehensive test plans.
- Design, develop, and test optical components and subsystems supporting technologies such as:
- Thermal imaging systems
- High-resolution color/monochrome cameras
- Lasers, radar, direct-view optics
- Stabilized control systems
- Support sensor and sight integration/testing on military vehicle platforms.
- Collaborate across engineering teams to ensure all product requirements are met.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, status updates, and presentations.
- Provide technical expertise to internal stakeholders and external customers.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optics, Electro-Optical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred for candidates with less experience).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in optical systems design (or equivalent with advanced degree).
- Solid understanding of physical and geometrical optics.
- Hands-on optics lab experience, including precise alignment and calibration.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and CAD tools (CREO/Pro-E preferred).
- Familiarity with optical simulation/design tools like Zemax and NV-IPM is a plus.
- Knowledge of analog/digital video formats (RS-170, HD-SDI, DVI, DisplayPort, etc.) and distribution techniques preferred.
- Experience working with military standards and testing requirements is a plus.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- Strong interpersonal, multitasking, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work overtime/weekends as needed.
