Position Overview

OMG currently operates in two Divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster. OMG Roofing Products is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of value-added components for the commercial roofing industry. The FastenMaster Division manufactures and markets innovative, premium quality wood-to-wood fasteners that are engineered to enable professional contractors to complete building projects safer, faster, and easier. The quality of our products and services is critical to the success of our company and our customers. OMG uses New Product Development & Innovation (NPD&I) teams to develop and introduce products and services that improve customer productivity and enhance building envelope performance. The Senior Product Development Chemist leads the team that creates innovative new adhesive and sealant products to address unmet needs in the markets we serve. This key position manages the team to achieve goals by optimizing the product design and development process. Reporting to the Director of New Product Development and Innovation, the Senior Product Development Chemist excels by applying advanced engineering principles and data-based decision-making to achieve results. We require a hands-on manager with a background in product development and relevant engineering and lean manufacturing experience.

Position Responsibilities
  • Promote safety as the Number 1 priority of all OMG employees.
  • Manage projects in a manner that evenly distributes workloads and provides the team with opportunities to gain experience and develop skills.
  • Review projects regularly to address challenges and meet deadlines.
  • Foster a climate of continuous improvement and champion the use of Lean tools, including implementing standard work to achieve consistent quality.
  • Manage resources to support Business Unit ("BU") goals, communicating regularly with Project Managers and BU teams to understand priorities.
  • Develop a solid understanding of products and applications to provide direction to the team and support project work.
  • Work with the Project Team to review the work breakdown structure and project timeline to anticipate challenges or determine what additional information or resources are needed for the project to succeed.
  • Use standard work in the product development process focused on improving productivity and reducing cost.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering, providing support and direction on production issues and input on equipment layout and new equipment needs.
  • Work with Project Managers to develop and maintain accurate budgets for proposed and approved projects.
  • Achieve project quality goals.
  • Serve as a technical resource for outside code and approval authorities.
  • Participate in trade shows and industry technical meetings to track technology and industry trends and increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Hire, train, and develop Product Development Engineering resources to meet department requirements and goals.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.


Position Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Polymer, or Material science. (Master's or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Successful track record of building or leading engineering teams in a product development environment.
  • Product design experience, preferably related to construction applications. Polyurethane adhesive or coating experience helpful.
  • Solid understanding of Lean principles, including experience with Kaizens and value stream mapping.
  • Strong mathematical/data analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Experience developing and executing project plans, communicating changes and progress, and completing projects on time and within budget.
  • Advanced PC skills, including experience with MS Office Suite (strong Excel and Microsoft Project skills required) and MiniTab.
  • Positive attitude and good judgment.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ownership

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and occasionally lift/push/pull/carry up to 25 pounds.
