Job Title: Senior Project Engineer

Department: Engineering

Accountability: This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager

Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain all forms of product documentation & lead documentation strategy: 3D models for components & assemblies, 2D component & manufacturing assembly drawings, Technical product datasheets, and Customer Instruction manuals
  • Fully utilize advanced CAD system capabilities to create and revise concepts & designs based on market and customer specific requirements with minimal direction, reverse engineer customer equipment or commercially available components
  • Perform tolerance analysis and includes accurate standard and geometric tolerances on all detail drawings; Assists others with these tasks as needed
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency & optimize designs
  • Define engineering design requirements to meet company goals and develop test criteria & methodologies to ensure new product designs are validated prior to production
  • Ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications
  • Work collaboratively with Sales or customers to scope complex incoming projects, including verification of adequate product requirements, estimation of schedule as well as, project & product costs
  • Prioritize and plan, and document projects to meet multiple project commitments: Design controls, Cost, and Schedule; assist or direct others with prioritization and project management
  • Work directly with manufacturing and / or suppliers to proactively design for manufacturability and assembly (DFX)
  • Select commercially available components for use in products
  • Select materials for use in product components
  • Obtain and verifies product packaging samples and packaging documentation
  • Maintain consistent and standardized product design history/project files in proper folders and uses the Product Design & Engineering checklists to ensure all appropriate tasks are complete at time of release
  • Build and verify prototypes and first-build product
  • Inspect incoming component parts for accuracy and quality; Assists and directs others with this task as needed
  • Lead engineering change orders in a timely manner
  • Lead cross-functional teams for assigned projects
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional design reviews
  • Effectively influence engineers, designers, technicians, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to meet project commitments
  • Effectively mentors and delegates work to assigned teammates
  • Be seen by peers and functional leaders as a subject matter expert in one or more particular products or categories
  • Learn & expand personal knowledge of the industry, competitors, and customers


Requirements
  • BSME, or combination of relevant education and experience
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in Mechanical Design in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced skill and capabilities in CAD systems - preferably SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of DFX for precision manufacturing materials & processes including sheet metal, castings, injection molding, extruding, machining, paint & powder coating, PCBA, and assembly
  • Demonstrated success optimizing designs for additive manufacturing
  • Proficiency in mechanical design drafting practices, including full compliance with ASME Standard Y14.5 - 2009 and relevant GD&T standards
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in performing mechanical engineering calculations
  • Demonstrated ability to select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes
  • Design for electrical component integration


Preferred Education and Experience
  • Successful launch of eight (8) or more products
  • Design thinking
  • Rendering experience - preferably Photoview 360 or KeyShot
  • Six Sigma or other SPC experience desirable

  • Must occasionally be able to lift and move from 50 to 100 lbs.
