Senior Project Engineer

Join a team of forward thinking, enthusiastic, results-driven and collaborative professionals. To support our mission, we are currently seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join our team in Vancouver.

Position Summary

Undertake and coordinate project control activities, on site engineering and procurement functions to ensure the project is completed safely, meets design criteria, in specification and within time and cost constraints to achieve profit and commercial objectives.

What does this role involve?
  • Liaise with other business units as required in participating in design reviews, constructability reviews, resource/cost forecasts and to also provide meaningful feedback and recommendations on process improvements.
  • Coordinate and administer construction activities to ensure that projects are executed in accordance with plans, designs and specifications.
  • Interpret designs for implementation in the construction of projects.
  • Contribute to constructability improvements for the design.
  • Arrange and oversee the letting of supply or works contracts as required.
  • Provide cost control and forecasting support for nominated JDE cost codes and/or contract packages.
  • Monitor project progress for adherence to programme and report to Director, Projects or Project Manager.
  • Coordinate the plant design deliverables and interface with procurement or construction via the respective lead engineers
  • Assist Planner, Project Controls Manager and/or the Project Manager to prepare schedules for the project.
  • Ensure that contract works 'packages' are engineered in accordance with standards set by both client and the company.
  • Timely issue of contracts / purchase orders and ensure that they comply with both the Head Contract and internal procedures.
  • Ensure that all variations to scope and or specifications are approved and documented.
  • Ascertain the vendor documents are reviewed for approval on an urgent basis to avoid delays in the design and construction schedules.
  • Set up and maintain orderly project directory files and ensure that schedules, drawings and correspondence are recorded, stored and distributed in accordance with approved procedures
  • Refer any major problems during a project's duration to the Project Manager or relevant functional manager.
  • Attend site visits as required by the Director, Projects or Project Manager
  • Raise, monitor and close-out technical queries with the design team as required and in a timely manner.
  • Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards.
  • Assist in the resolution of technical queries from subcontractors
  • Ensure subcontract works are delivered safely, in accordance with the project schedule and comply to the technical requirements of the project
  • Ensure subcontractor payments are managed in accordance with the contract conditions.
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system, ensuring that Sedgman quality standards are implemented on the project.
  • Develop, review and complete ITP's and checksheets to ensure compliance with the project quality requirements and processes

Raise, review and manage vendor, fabrication and subcontractor works non-conformance reports as required during the construction and completion phases of the project.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will be self-motivated, well organised with the ability to manage multiple work fronts in a busy environment. You will be able to think out-of-the-box and be the driver to find innovative solutions.

Qualifications:
  • Tertiary education in engineering or construction.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Minimum 8 years project experience, ideally with 2-3 years site experience involving construction of mineral processing or other heavy industrial projects
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Skills in MS Office Suite and MS Project or Primavera P6

Desired skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Mining industry construction experience
  • Experience in cost control, planning, JDE and design activities.
  • Contracts administration exposure

Salary range in BC: 175,000 - 225,000

The salary offered to the successful person for this position will consider education, experience, relevant skills and capability, geographic location and market conditions at the time of hire.
