Title: Senior Project Manager (Community Recreation)
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under general direction, responsible for leading and overseeing major projects within the Community Recreation department. This role involves strategic planning, execution, and delivery of initiatives aimed at enhancing community engagement, expanding recreational offerings, and improving service quality. Works closely with internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure projects align with the organization's mission and community needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably seven to nine (7 - 9) years in project management for the appropriate field is required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. License requirement: Illinois Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
General work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Perform tasks that involve use of hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching, walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. This position requires continuous sitting at a desk. Performs lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads the planning and execution of complex, multi-faceted projects within the recreation department, from inception through completion.
- Develops and manage project scopes, objectives, budgets, timelines, and resources.
- Provides professional management in all areas including administration, planning, and scheduling and staff coordination.
- Defines team roles and responsibilities.
- Coordinates internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects.
- Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation, including status reports, program analysis, and program impact summaries.
- Communicates effectively with stakeholders to provide regular updates on project status, deliverables, and challenges.
- Conducts project evaluations and assessments of results, making data-driven recommendations for future improvements.
- Oversees risk management and mitigation strategies to address potential challenges in project execution.
- Coordinates and oversees concurrent projects involving a number of teams.
- Serves as project liaison to public, Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners, staff, executives, consultants, vendors and contractors.
- Collaborates with community groups, partners, and participants to align project outcomes with community interests and needs.
- Mentors and guides junior staff and coordinators, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Contributes to the strategic planning of the Community Recreation department, bringing forward innovative ideas and solutions.
- Evaluates performance of staff, consultants and vendors.
- Makes recommendations regarding hiring, firing, promotion or disciplining of employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience:

- Knowledge of the management processes in a variety of settings and the ability to apply this knowledge to the development of innovative solutions to problems in the design and implementation process.
- Professional knowledge of management principles and practices.
- Knowledge of computer methods and techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to manage successfully the design and implementation process for large and complex projects within demanding time and cost constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budget in design and implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules.
- Comprehensive understanding of project delivery gained through documented education and/or experience.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
- Ability to detail, to perform within deadlines, to maintain confidentiality and to manage multiple and various stakeholders.
