Position Overview: The Senior Project Manager is a strategic leader responsible for managing large projects with multiple workstreams, or programs composed of several projects. This role requires expertise in planning, organizing, and managing complex projects while engaging with many stakeholders at various levels of the organization (including the Executive sponsor) and third-party vendors / contractors supporting delivery.
The Senior Project Manager excels in building and driving a complex project plan to ensure delivery within budget, in alignment with expected timelines, and with expected benefits. This individual will ensure the successful completion of essential deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, including appropriate documentation. They are responsible for ensuring risks to the project's objectives are appropriately identified and escalated to address and mitigate in a time sensitive manner.

Here's where you'll be focusing:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning and Execution Management:
- Lead the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closing of large, complex projects with multiple workstreams.
- Build the project plan, including developing clear and attainable project objectives, building project requirements, and managing the triple constraint of cost, time, and quality.
- Manage the execution of the project plan to ensure delivery within budget, timelines, and expected outcomes.
- Monitor project status and manage deliverables to ensure quality standards and goals are achieved.
- Manage any changes in the project in accordance with project change management controls.
- Facilitate the completion of core project documents, including but not limited to Project Brief, Business Case, Project Charter, RAID log, and others.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Leadership:
- Effectively communicate and engage with all stakeholders, including the executive sponsor (as the ultimate accountable party for the project), to drive project engagement and ensure delivery is in alignment with business goals.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and foster strong relationships to support project success.
- Lead and manage project teams, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure high performance.
- Foster a collaborative environment and build a learning community to continuously improve project management practices.
- Support, mentor, and lead PMs assigned to the program.
3. Risk and Issue Management:
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks to mitigate potential impacts.
- Develop and implement risk management plans and strategies.
- Ensure risks / issues are identified and escalated appropriately and in a time sensitive manner.
4. Financial Management:
- Oversee financial management of material, multi-million dollar project budgets, including the in-year budget, multi-year financials, and benefits delivery in partnership with the project Finance lead.
- Ensure efficient use of financial resources to meet project delivery requirements.
5. Resource Management:
- Plan and manage resource assignments with project sponsors and key stakeholders.
- Manage Technology resources in Planview on a regular basis to ensure the right resources are allocated, and adjusted based on project needs
- Ensure optimal allocation and utilization of resources to achieve project goals.
6. Communication and Reporting:
- Provide regular, clear, and concise visibility into project status, including key decisions, dependencies, issues, risks, and metrics.
- Maintain up-to-date project documentation, status reports, and stakeholder communications throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality presentations and reports to senior executives and stakeholders.

- University undergraduate degree in related discipline and 10+ years of related work experience, with a minimum of 8 years experience as a Project Manager managing complex multi-faceted cross-functional programs to successful completion; An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Knowledge of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and experience managing complex Information Technology project(s) is required
- Experience managing large projects within the retail industry is preferred; expertise in multi-channel grocery retail would be a strong asset
- Experience and ability to manage one or more large, complex projects simultaneously
- Advanced skills in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
- Extensive experience with traditional and innovative project management processes, techniques, tools across agile, waterfall, iterative methods associated tools
- Sound organizational, analytical, judgment and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem-solving complex issues
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships; Effective stakeholder relationship management skills to successfully lead and manage the project team and project stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for the development of strategy, guidelines, policies, standards, and best practices
- Willing to support the team during peak volumes and workloads with various activities
- Effective in process management and controls, to minimize risk exposure
- Experience in budget management and forecasting to support annual planning and lead monthly forecasting for project budgets
- Experienced in working with vendors, developing and delivering project presentations/reports, and identifying and evaluating alternatives
- Knowledge of large ERP systems (i.e. SAP) is preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or MBA is an asset
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset
- The candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the development, development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada.
