Description:

Responsibilities:
  • Perform electrical acceptance testing, commissioning, and maintenance on systems across industrial, commercial, and utility sectors.
  • Test and troubleshoot switchgear, transformers, and protection systems.
  • Calibrate and test electromechanical and microprocessor-based protective relays.
  • Develop and execute test plans and reports per customer specifications.
  • Provide technical expertise for system inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed and lead on-site safety briefings.
  • Communicate system performance and test results to clients.
  • Perform a variety of testing on protection and control relays, including reading and verifying voltage and current inputs, relay calibration, trip testing, and verifying all alarms.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment.
  • Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying (electro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, line traps, etc.), controls, and communications equipment.
  • Plan, schedule, and complete test activities efficiently, on time, without service interruptions and according to client and company safety procedures and standards.
  • Provide support to appropriate field service personnel.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Willing to submit to pre-employment, random, and for-cause drug testing.
  • Ability to effectively and regularly converse and comprehend in English.
  • 8+ years of related experience in power plants, industrial services, primary power distribution, and related protection and control schemes.
  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree in electrical engineering technology preferred.
  • Licensures and Certifications: NETA 2, 3, or 4 preferred.
  • Experienced utilizing Power DB to accurately and consistently document is a plus.
  • Previous experience testing electro-mechanical and solid-state relays and meters is a plus.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Employs professional and effective communication in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to independently resolve project issues if needed.
  • Manages time efficiently with the ability to work and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Self-driven and exhibits the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, business acumen, and management ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and all necessary equipment.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Up to 50% - 70% travel required, with flexibility for overtime, extended hours, and occasional work on nights, weekends, and holidays. Availability for increased travel and hours may be necessary during peak seasons.
  • Valid and current Driver's license with clean driving record.

Working Conditions:

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between facilities and customer sites.

Physical Requirements:

The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
