The Senior Quality Lab Analyst is responsible for performing pyrolysis bench trials, performing quality testing on feedstock samples, production process samples, and finished product samples to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards, communicating results through internal channels, systems and external quality documents (COAs). This role performs routine analysis that validates and verifies methods, ensures the accuracy of data, processes, and results and identifies issues that may affect the repeatability and integrity of test results.
This role is the subject matter expert for operation, maintenance and calibration of equipment required for quality testing and will ensure accuracy and reliability. Identifies and addresses any issues with equipment performance. This role is responsible for maintaining general laboratory supplies, cleanliness, and organization (including glassware cleaning and other supplemental duties).
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Performs comprehensive quality testing on Pyrolysis Oil and Wax (finished product and in-process), Feedstock Qualification and R&D samples.
Responsible for operating all quality control equipment that includes, but is not limited to, GC-MS, GC, ICP-OES, C-IC, Vapor Pressure and various other lab equipment and techniques.
Responsible for becoming the subject matter expert for operation, maintenance and calibration of equipment required for quality testing and will ensure accuracy and reliability.
Performs routine analysis that validates and verifies methods, ensures the integrity of data, processes, and results and identifies issues that may affect the accuracy and integrity of test results.
Responsible for sample scheduling/organization/prioritization, reporting and releasing process tanks for offloading, and creating Certificates of Analysis.
Responsible for documenting and maintaining lab results in lab notebooks and digitally (where applicable).
Responsible for logging and reporting lab results digitally and/or by email.
Responsible for organizing and maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organization which may include duties like sweeping, mopping, dusting and glassware hand-cleaning.
Weighing lab samples using a lab balance and performing a daily verification on the calibrated lab balance(s).
Maintaining laboratory supplies, inventory, and equipment calibrations will be integral to the success of this role.
Responsible for the proper disposal of hazardous materials and samples.
Communicating effectively with other teams, which may include communicating lab results or coordinating lab sample drop offs.
Education and Experience
B.S. in a Science field like Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or similar field.
10-15 years' experience required.
Prior Quality control/assurance lab experience or familiarity is required.
Prior experience with industrial manufacturing or processing plants is also a plus but not required.
Prior experience with the operation of GC-MS, GC, ICP-OES/AES, CIC and/or Total Nitrogen-Sulfur Analyzers is a bonus but not required.
Ability to learn fast and apply critical thinking skills for problem solving.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on legible handwriting in line with good documentation practices.
Ability to be flexible, curious, attentive to details and be able to grow in this role and any other potential roles.
Basic understanding of electronic and computerized equipment in laboratories and office areas.
Strong ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain positive working relationships with a wide variety of individual team members, contractors and vendors.
