POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Real Estate Underwriter is responsible for analyzing and verifying residential loan applications, evaluating risks, and making loan eligibility decisions in accordance with agency guidelines, ATR/QM standards, SAFE policy overlays, and SAFE Jumbo Program Loan eligibility, as applicable. The Senior Real Estate Underwriter will exercise sound judgment based on detailed analysis and ensure all documentation complies with the relevant regulations, guidelines and required quality standards.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior Real Estate Underwriter will exercise sound judgment based on detailed analysis and ensure all documentation complies with the relevant regulations, guidelines and required quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Underwrite and authorize residential loan applications in accordance with policies, procedures and prudent underwriting guidelines and practices within approved loan authority limits.
- Review and verify loan applications and supporting documentation.
- Review and perform risk assessment of credit report, income and asset documentation for each borrower.
- Review and perform risk assessment of collateral documentation, including analysis of appraisal to ensure valuation and improvements are sufficient for credit request.
- Review application, documentation and overall transaction for any potential red flags, ensuring they are addressed and resolved, as necessary.
- Review applicable DU/ LPA (AUS) findings to ensure loan meets investor/agency guidelines.
- Review applicable SAFE Program Eligibility Matrix and Handbook to ensure loan meets Jumbo and/or ATR requirements for Non-QM programs as needed.
- Review, disposition and add loan conditions based on documentation provided in accordance with SAFE policies, guidelines and/or AUS findings.
- Document and effectively communicate reasons for loan decisions.
- Consult with mortgage sales and operations staff to structure loans within agency/investor requirements.
- Manage production pipeline while meeting prescribed SLA's.
- Provide feedback, educate and mentor sales and operations staff while answering questions, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred, not required.
