We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Advisor to join our team in Calgary. This role will lead and support various regulatory activities, including drafting applications and amendments associated with development and compliance for conventional and in-situ thermal projects across Strathcona's operations. The position will also support development and operations teams, lead regulatory agency engagement, and support corporate governance and other reporting and assurance initiatives.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Advisor to join our team in Calgary. This role will lead and support various regulatory activities, including drafting applications and amendments associated with development and compliance for conventional and in-situ thermal projects across Strathcona's operations. The position will also support development and operations teams, lead regulatory agency engagement, and support corporate governance and other reporting and assurance initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the necessary resources to make timely regulatory filings and permit applications with municipal authorities and the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), the British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER), the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources (MER) to obtain necessary authorizations for various facility and drilling projects (e.g., new pipelines/facilities/wells, reactivation/deactivation of existing facilities) and ongoing operations and maintenance activities.
- Support air emissions compliance reporting across BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, including emissions reports for methane, benzene, NPRI, MSAPR, and provincial and federal GHG reporting and forecasting as required.
- Support the development of compliance assurance initiatives, including but not limited to the environmental management and regulatory management systems (environmental audit program, regulatory compliance program, etc.).
- Provide technical guidance, compliance support, and quality control for data collection and metric reporting to operations across all Strathcona assets and facilities.
- Support internal requests for regulatory guidance by researching and preparing summaries of applicable legislation.
- Consult and engage with regulators, consultants, operations, and cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and promote continuous improvement. Ensure effective document management of regulatory submissions and communications.
- Review regulatory changes and their potential impact on the business, providing summaries to internal stakeholders.
- Build collaborative relationships internally and externally to understand strategy and resolve any outstanding matters on projects.
- Manage timelines, decision gates, and key milestones for the regulatory process in these areas. Streamline support for drilling operations and facility projects.
- Support audits, assessments, and reporting as requested.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in oil and gas regulatory and compliance management and reporting.
- Post-secondary education in Business/Commerce, Science/Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge and experience with provincial and federal regulations associated with the discipline, upstream oil and gas operations, and reporting.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills across all levels of an organization.
- Proven collaboration and positive relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of the Envirosoft and/or Emissions Advisor environmental platforms is an asset.
- Knowledge of Prodview, Petrinex, and Production Accounting is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Field travel may be required but will be minimal. Must possess a valid driver's license.
