Job Title: Senior Roadway Engineer

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Location: Chicago, IL

Salary: $100,000 - $135,000 (commensurate with education, certifications, and years of relevant industry experience.)

Position Summary: The Senior Roadway Engineer is a licensed professional responsible for managing and executing multiple projects simultaneously. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of engineering fundamentals related to design and construction. While performing tasks with minimal supervision, the Senior Engineer may be involved in developing preliminary engineering studies and reports, preparing design plans and specifications, leading field inspections, or acting as a Senior Construction Engineer on-site.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Manage assigned projects, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, with or without the assistance of team members.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of team members, ensuring alignment with project goals and deadlines.
  • Communicate with team members, consultants, and clients, both verbally and in writing, to ensure the smooth coordination of project activities.
  • Ensure the quality of both personal and team deliverables, while meeting budget and schedule requirements for project completion.
  • Perform necessary calculations and run models to support the assignment, ensuring that outputs are easily understandable and can be reviewed by others.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding any conflicting timeframes that could impact the timely completion of tasks.
  • Collaborate with other project staff to coordinate work activities and optimize efficiency.
  • Maintain proper filing, documentation, and drawing conventions in line with company standards.
  • Utilize design software, including CADD, to complete project tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of work before submitting assignments for supervisor review.
  • Maintain Professional Engineering (PE) license, ensuring fulfillment of continuing education and other related requirements.
  • Engage with relevant professional organizations to further enhance knowledge and expertise.
  • Meet assigned billability rates and be available for overtime work as directed by a supervisor when necessary.
  • Potentially serve as a mentor to junior engineers (Engineer I or Engineer II).
  • Perform other duties as required, both temporary and permanent.


Qualifications:
  • Approximately 5-9 years of experience in engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited school.
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • Maintain licensure through continuing education.
  • Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Advanced decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, while collaborating with other team members and managers
  • Demonstrates autonomy, organization, assertiveness, flexibility, and cooperation of performing job responsibilities.
  • Complies with accepted professional and safety standards and practice.
