Position Description
This is professional and technical work in the management of county-wide safety and training programs.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Safety & Insurance, the Senior Safety Coordinator ensures that the County is compliant and adheres to Occupational Safety & Health guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. The Senior Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing countywide safety and training programs that are designed to reduce risk exposure in county operations. The position identifies the need for, develops, and presents safety training material for various safety and training programs. The position acts as a liaison between the county and compliance agencies which include Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) to ensure that all county-wide safety programs comply with County, State, and federal laws and regulations. The position is responsible for continuously researching and staying abreast of new and existing workplace safety strategies and programs.

Coordinate and implement county-wide safety and training programs such as the AED program, Stop the Bleed Equipment Program, First-Aid Instructor Training, American Heart Association, CPR, and the Safety Boot Program.
Manage county-wide safety and training programs for effectiveness and conduct risk assessments.
Establish a multi-faceted approach for the dissemination of safety information and training material.
Act as a liaison with compliance agencies such as MOSH to ensure the compliance of county-wide programs with County, State, and Federal laws and regulations.
Review existing policies and procedures.
Create safety policies and procedures to align with the county-wide safety program.
Manage safety contracts to ensure quality service, productivity, consistency, and value.
Research and identify approved vendors for safety training.
Research strategies and programs to enhance county-wide workplace safety.
Prepare educational seminars and webinars regularly.
Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes.
Perform related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective county-wide safety and training programs.
Considerable knowledge of Federal, State, and County safety requirements, including OSHA.
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, principles, and practices of safety education.
Considerable knowledge of the principles of risk management and the principles of loss control and management of risk exposures common to County operations.
Strong organizational, time-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to detect hazardous conditions and to identify causative factors of accidents and injuries.
Ability to make sound recommendations for the correction of hazardous conditions.
Ability to plan, design, organize, and implement effective safety programs.
Ability to prepare and maintain required statistics, records, and reports using various automated systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in risk management and occupational safety and health, or a related field; two (2) or more years of experience in risk management and occupational safety and health programs; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
NOTE: Accredited University or College is the recognition from an accrediting agency that an institution maintains a certain level of educational standards. The U.S. Department of Education maintains a database of accrediting agencies it recognizes for schools within the United States. For a University or College outside the United States, the applicant must provide documentation of accreditation and educational equivalency, which can be accomplished through a credential evaluation service.
