Description:
Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a Sr. Scientific Programmer Analyst to support an important mission at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in the development and evaluation of geophysical data products (ocean, land, atmosphere) from spaceborne radiometers and polarimeters. This position is located at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Duties may include:
- scientific software development,
- implementation and evaluation of geophysical retrieval algorithms,
- implementation and evaluation of satellite sensor calibration or geolocation
- development of tools and methodologies to assess and correct for instrumental artifacts in derived geophysical products.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Physical Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics (post graduate education will be considered for professional experience) and 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in the development and analysis of oceanic, terrestrial, or atmospheric science data products from spaceborne radiometers or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- US Citizenship Required: The successful candidate must also be eligible for unescorted access to NASA facilities.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Python, C/C++, or Fortran programming languages,
- Data science, satellite sensor data processing, radiometric calibration, spacecraft flight dynamics experience.
