We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our Discovery Chemistry Department as a Senior Scientist I and work as part of a team to drive success. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, independent, committed to the generation of high-quality data within a fast-paced and innovative research team. The Senior Scientist I will support ongoing RNA-based drug discovery projects in several therapeutic areas. This position is responsible for lead analytical development activities to support development, purification and characterization of our on-going oligonucleotide-based drug discovery. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience in analytical test method development and validation, ideally with an emphasis on HPLC / UPLC and LC-MS techniques.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Carry out assigned laboratory functions applying knowledge and skill in an accurate, timely manner.
- Independently develop analytical and purification methods for large molecules such as oligonucleotides, novel oligonucleotide conjugates, peptides and antibodies.
- Design and perform innovative experiments to support the development of novel modalities.
- Manage and maintain equipment, reagents and dedicated laboratory environment needed to carry out assignments.
- Contribute to the preparation of research reports and presentations for internal project teams, leadership team, and external audience.
- Collaborate with different teams including chemistry, conjugation and biology to develop approaches for challenging separations.
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with critical collaborative partners throughout the company.
- Maintain updated and well-organized lab notebooks.
- Execute daily chemistry operations with an approach designed to minimize risks and hazard waste streams.
- Maintain all appropriate corporate standards for lab safety and hazardous material management.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, or related scientific discipline
- 2-5 years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience analytical chemistry.
- Strong background knowledge and hands-on experience in common analytical techniques and instrumentation for pharmaceutical analysis (i.e. HPLC/UPLC, LCMS etc).
- Extensive experience with analytical method development and validation.
- Extensive knowledge of LCMS for quantification and structure identification of small molecules, peptides, proteins, and/or oligonucleotides is required.
- Hands-on experience in operating high resolution accurate mass spectrometers (ToF, FT-ICR, Orbitrap).
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience with various analytical and purification techniques, especially RP-HPLC, LC-MS, SEC, IEX, SAX, HIC etc.
- Maintain HPLC/LCMS instrumentation and independently troubleshoot instrument problems.
- Superior laboratory skills and awareness of laboratory safety.
- Broad knowledge of scientific experience with track record of scientific achievement demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite Products.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specific experience with the analysis of oligonucleotides and proteins is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and effective presentation of complex scientific data to cross-functional and senior management teams are essential for this role.
- A track-record of impacting drug discovery programs through driving projects to key decision points.
- In-depth knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods, purification and analytical techniques as well as medicinal chemistry.

Compensation:
- This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, occasional overtime.
