About the Role:

The Wyss Institute at Harvard University is seeking an innovative scientific leader with significant experience with Organ Chip technology as well as clinical medicine to lead a team that is developing clinically relevant in vitro models of human organs, including models of bone marrow for diagnosis and treatment of hematopoietic diseases, with the goal to create personalized Organ Chips that will be used to accelerate development and validation of therapeutics and clinical biomarkers working with industrial partners. Reporting to the Senior Principal Scientist and Faculty Leader, you will manage, develop and inspire a team of junior scientists and research assistants. As a member of the Advanced Technology Team, you will be exposed to many different technologies in areas ranging from therapeutics and diagnostics to synthetic biology and materials science, with the goal of identifying new product solutions and the unique opportunity to follow your passion either at the Institute or as a future co-founder of a Wyss start-up.

Basic Qualifications

What you'll need:
  • Master's degree in Immunology, Biology or another related field required.
  • A minimum of 9 years of experience working with hematopoietic disease and the marrow microenvironment. A PhD may count towards years of experience.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

Desirable skills:
  • An M.D. degree and completion of a clinical residency in Pathology or other area of medicine is strongly preferred.
  • PhD is strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of bone marrow physiology and pathophysiology is required.
  • Demonstrated facility and knowledge of methods of molecular cell biology and genetics
  • Full-time post-graduate product development-oriented experience in either industry or academic setting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and working in cross-functional teams. Excellent documentation, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced translational environment and able to adjust scientific approach based upon changing priorities.
  • Ability to seek out collaborations
  • Experience in mentoring fellows and/or students


Working Conditions

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
