This senior scientist role will promote implementation of the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services data strategy. You will plan, coordinate, and facilitate activities assigned to the Environmental Affairs (EA) Applied Science Team. You will provide technical assistance to all Environmental Services Bureaus pertaining to data and its presentation to community groups and individuals. Additionally, you will provide technical representation and perspective on Community Engagement activity.
Job Responsibilities:
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A master's degree in the natural or physical sciences, public health or related technical field and six years of environmental experience; or a bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, public health or related technical field and seven (7) years of environmental experience.
Additional Requirements:
Thorough of the principles of Quality Assurance associated with planning, collection and analysis of environmental data. Familiarity with program area data collection and statistics as applied to analytical questions. Ability to collaborate plan, set up, supervise or conduct projects as presented in complex written or oral instructions. Ability to review and write analytical reports and plans and interpret and present environmental data to technical and non technical audiences. Must have excellent communication (both oral and written), time management, and organizational skills.
Must be available to work 37.5 hours/week; weekends and emergencies as required. Must be available for occasional travel for training and emergencies.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

- Support staff development and projects in Environmental Affairs with focus on improved data visualization and communication.
- Actively support and contribute to the EA and program response to community and citizen concerns.
- Lead agency data, drone and GIS strategies.
- Represent Environmental Affairs, providing technical perspective in internal and intra-agency workgroups.
