Senior Service Repair Technician - O'Hara, PA (Hybrid)

PURPOSE

The purpose of a Service Operations Engineer is to optimize the U.S. Service organizations operational processes, systems, and equipment to improve safety, enhance quality and compliance, increase productivity and reduce waste. Operations engineers are tasked with supporting sustaining activities and identifying areas for improvement within the U.S. Service business including: streamlining workflows, enhancing service processes, tools and equipment and optimizing resource utilization. They are adept at diagnosing and resolving operational issues and process inefficiencies. They use their technical knowledge and work closely with Commercial leadership, U.S. Service process owners and operators, and other engineers to identify process and system deficiencies, identify and implement solutions. Operations engineers often collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify and communicate trends that help prioritize opportunities and make informed decisions about process improvements. They ensure that operations are conducted safely and in accordance with company and industry standards and regulations. Must reside in the Pittsburgh, PA Metro area and can easily get to the O'Hara facility.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to collect and analyze data, interpret and communicate results, identify opportunities and lead cross-discipline projects to enhance U.S. Service operational efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and operational standards; leverage Bayer's internal document management system to create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and associated training requirements for the service business;
  • Work with cross-discipline teams including: Commercial, NPD, LCE, Quality, Product Supply and supplier partners to identify root causes for failures and process inefficiencies, recommend robust solutions and drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve product reliability and the field service processes supporting products and services;
  • Track and analyze key service performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, address potential issues and measure the success of continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Partners with Learning and Development colleagues to ensure robust operational training including, but not limited to: process training, new hire on-boarding, field service certifications, employee credentialling and sustaining technical training;
  • Promote and support a culture of continuous improvement within the organization by educating employees on continuous improvement principles and best practices;
  • Support NPD and Lifecycle Engineering in developing and implementing service plans, schematics, manuals, installation guides, service kits, technical bulletins and specialized/calibrated tools necessary to provide U.S. field service with installation, troubleshooting and product maintenance needs;
  • Interface with global service, U.S. field service, technical assistance center, sales representatives, customer support, clinical support specialists as needed to monitor and address fielded equipment performance and product reliability issues.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors in business or related degree;
  • Experience in service, manufacturing or designing electro-mechanical systems. Design-for-manufacturing or service product development experience;
  • Understanding and experience working with electro-mechanical systems including their controls;
  • Proven ability to use relevant knowledge across a breadth of technical disciplines and applicable technologies;
  • Excellent trouble-shooting, problem solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong communication, networking, and multi-tasking skills;
  • Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies and proven ability to effectively drive change and influence a culture of quality and continuous improvement;
  • Working knowledge and proven skills of PC computer operating system including Microsoft office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Industrial Engineering preferred) with 3 years of applicable work experience;
  • Experience working in a medical device or similar regulated industry;
  • Experience with customer facing field service and support operations.
