Company: IonQ

Location: Seattle, WA 98160

Description:

IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. IonQs computers will soon redefine industries like medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography, and more. IonQ is at the forefront of this technological revolution.

The salary range for this position is $153,003 - $200,321.

We are looking for a senior software engineer in control theory and digital signal processing. Youll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the worlds best quantum computers to solve the worlds most complex problems.

Our quantum control system schedules real-time operations to control lasers and other devices that create our quantum gates. Were looking for a senior software engineer with knowledge of control theory and signal processing to help us improve the accuracy of the RF and laser pulses used to create our quantum gates. This role requires working closely with research physicists, hardware engineers, and other software teams at all stages of the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, architect, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve major control theory and digital signal processing algorithms for RF and optical signals.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, production-ready code in Rust and other languages.
  • Assist in the career development of others, providing mentorship on advanced technical issues.
  • Collaborate with an experienced interdisciplinary staff
  • Approach problems pragmatically
  • Help us continuously improve how we do things

The ideal candidate will have experience developing control theory and digital signal processing algorithms to correct for hardware inaccuracies. Youll be able to analyze, simulate, and model hardware transfer functions, and generate control loop architectures to correct for them. You are comfortable with both analysis of signal processing and control theory algorithms and also implementing them in software.

Youd be a good fit with:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years experience in software development in one or more general purpose programming languages, with strong knowledge of at least one systems programming language (e.g. C, C++, Rust)
  • Critical skills in a few key areas:
  • Digital signal processing, both mathematical foundations and bench experience in either image processing, RF, or optics
  • Background in control theory and implementation of control theory algorithms
  • Programmatic data acquisition from oscilloscopes and/or spectrum analyzers
  • 4+ years applied digital signal processing experience, with a proven ability to develop, define, design and implement signal processing solutions in
  • Experience with simulation, modeling and analysis of error channels in hardware for control loop development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A love of collaborating in an interdisciplinary environment

Youd be a great fit with:

  • Masters degree or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience working with RF or optical control systems
  • Experience working with navigation control systems
  • Foundational knowledge of control theory algorithms and the derivation and application of these algorithms to one or more application domains
