Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack Java

Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with deep experience in Java and Angular, and a strong understanding of modern software development practices in a cloud-native environment. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, designing, developing, and testing complex software systems, with a focus on Microservices-based architectures, cloud technologies (primarily Azure), and event-based solutions. You will work on large-scale projects that involve cloud-native applications, data modeling, reactive programming, and API design.
You will play a critical role in shaping software architecture, improving performance, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to building robust and scalable applications. This position requires someone with a strong background in Java, Microservices, Cloud, and DevOps tools, as well as experience in Event-driven architectures.

Job Responsibilities

• Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related tools. Writes code that meets specifications, typically for large and highly complex software programs and systems. Develops software applications and tools. Participates in software design.

• Demonstrates proficiency in most areas of the professional function and in-depth specialization in some. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Anticipates and prevents problems and roadblocks before they occur.
• Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise to exchange semi complex information related to assigned activities.

External Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 7 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field
• Experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field
• Experience writing code for moderately complex applications
• Experience with programming languages for online applications, microservices or mobile applications
• Experience designing/building moderately complex applications/automation
• Experience writing automation test or deployment scripts
• Experience creating coding/scripting solutions to fix moderately complex problems
• Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
• At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
• At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
• Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle
• Proficient in Java (at least 5 years of hands-on experience)
• Experience in working in a microservices-based architecture in a cloud-native environment
• Working knowledge/experience of Kubernetes and other DevOps tooling
• Excellent knowledge of NoSQL-based databases, preferably Cosmos DB
• Experience in building solutions based on event-driven architecture
• Good knowledge in Kafka or Azure Event Hub
• Experience in cloud technologies like Azure
• Excellent debugging, optimization, and performance improvement skills
• Experience in reactive programming and use of frameworks like Spring WebFlux
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code review, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Experience with data modeling
• Experience/knowledge of using Java Design Patterns (creational, structural, behavioral, etc.), Enterprise Integration Patterns, etc.
• Experience in Test-Driven Development (proficient in JUnit and mocking frameworks like Mockito/PowerMock)
• Experience in using App Insights and various monitoring dashboards provided by Microsoft Azure
• Experience in building APIs using OpenAPI Specification (OAS)
• Experience working in an Agile environment and utilizing tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jira, etc.
• Experience in creating coding solutions to fix issues
• Good understanding of SonarQube metrics
