As a Senior Software Validation Engineer, we invite you to join our team to design, develop, and support our vision for North American Rail Automation. You will collaborate with domain experts, architects, developers, and testers on the Siemens Back Office Server (BOS), a key component of the Positive Train Control (PTC) initiative. PTC is revolutionizing the rail transportation industry and will serve as a foundation for future technologies aimed at network optimization and autonomous rail networks.
What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Assist with requirements review, analysis, specification, verification, and validation.
  • Create, review, maintain, document and implement Test plans, Test cases, and other Customer deliverable items.
  • Adhere to established guidelines and processes to meet technical standards and ensure maintainability.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and communicate complex and technical concepts effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Debug, solve, and isolate hardware and software issues.
  • Manage and assist the test team in their daily activities (Act as an advisor to junior engineers), including reviewing validation feedback, approving Pull Requests, and merging them to the master repository in Git.
  • Plan work scope, estimates, and schedules for the test team based on sprints, deliver releases to customers, and estimate release dates based on defects and change requests.
  • Participate in daily standup meetings, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Planning, and Client defect triage meetings.
  • Verify external defects logged by customers, reproduce them in the Test Environment, and work closely with the Development Team.
  • Be able to understand and run non-functional tests and requirement traceability matrix.
  • Be part of a 24x7x365 on-call rotation handling customer emergency support calls.
To thrive in this role, you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, or software engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Unix environment and commands.
  • Sound understanding of ISO QE standards
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
  • Proven experience in systems/software development and testing and project leadership.
It would be great if you had:
  • Solid understanding of railroad software and systems or experience working in a federally regulated industry.
  • Experience with containers, cloud environments, scripting in Python/shell, and Gitlab pipelines is a plus.
  • Proficiency in C++ programming.

This job is based in Pittsburgh, PA. We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The base salary range for this position in Pittsburgh, PA, is $109,100 - $147,200, and the annual incentive target is 10% of the base salary. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
