Description

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for providing senior management and executives with the analysis and information needed to make significant operational, financial, and strategic decisions. The Senior Accountant will be a key contributor to the month-end close, financial statement preparation, annual budgeting & forecasting process, cash flow forecast models, variance analysis, and other financial performance tools. This position will also work with multiple functional groups in a private equity-owned growth-stage manufacturing & engineering company, reporting to Controller.

Skills/Competencies
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong analytical skills dedicated to completing tasks on schedule.
  • Detailed-oriented and organized with the ability to synthesize complex business data and effectively communicate sound and insightful conclusions.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (V-look, sumif(s), pivot tables, etc) and ability to build financial models within tight deadlines; experience maintaining large databases a plus.
  • Ability to establish action plans, handle multiple tasks and priorities, and meet deliverables on time.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing & engineering environment with multiple functional groups.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP; role has hybrid finance & accounting responsibilities (75% finance, 25% accounting split)


Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of regular financial reports reviewed by senior and departmental management.
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, and provide analysis on budget vs. actual variances.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements promptly (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Shareholders' Equity Statement, and Statement of Cash Flows)
  • Maintain financial database (Flash Report) required to understand sales and margin analysis, cost analysis, customer, and product profitability, with an emphasis on working with large data sets with high proficiency.
  • Review and analyze the general ledger and sub-ledgers on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Prepare weekly bank and cash status reports for the Board of Directors
  • Assist with PL, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow forecasts for the Board of Directors
  • Assist with the implementation of ERP system upgrades, financial reporting, and general process enhancements; develop dashboard reports to present to Executive Leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Facilitate data requests by external parties (audit, tax, bankers, etc) as needed.
  • Lead special projects and assist with ad hoc requests as needed.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or other quantitative field of study; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Manufacturing and engineering industry experience with US GAAP is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant finance & accounting experience in mid-to-large size company strongly preferred; General Ledger experience is required.
  • Experience working with large ERP systems; JD Edwards Enterprise One is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working on a system implementation or upgrade.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and excellent work ethic.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, solid reconciliation, and analysis skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with senior management.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as a team under pressure to meet specific deadlines; ability to lead projects and exercise judgment to support and document conclusions.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel functions (V-lookup, sumif(s), pivot tables, etc) with proficiency in all other Microsoft Office Suite products.


Physical Job Requirements

This is primarily a sedentary office position with employees working in a controlled office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear. They are occasionally required to stand, walk or sit, reach with hands and arms, stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. This position involves occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
