The Structural Division

The Structural Division specializes in comprehensive structural engineering planning and design services, including structural assessments and forensics investigations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Structural Engineering Manager to lead the structural team in delivering innovative and high-quality engineering solutions across diverse projects. As the Structural Engineering Manager, you will oversee the structural team's engineering and drafting tasks, ensuring seamless project coordination both internally within the team and externally with other disciplines such as architecture, MEP, and more. You will play a critical role in structural design, project management during the Construction Administration phase, and fostering collaboration across all phases of the project lifecycle.

  • Team Leadership & Coordination: Manage the structural team's workflow and ensure efficient collaboration with other disciplines, including architecture, MEP, and project stakeholders.
  • Design & Documentation: Provide structural design expertise directly or indirectly to project team members. Coordinate the design and documentation required for construction documents while adhering to project schedules and budgets.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in coordination meetings with multidisciplinary teams, design review sessions with supervisors, clients, and owners, as well as work sessions with owner-client agencies to discuss scope of work and design methodology.
  • Construction Administration: Manage projects during the construction phase by reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs (Requests for Information), overseeing site visits, attending OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) meetings, and addressing change proposals or change orders. Incorporate changes into project documents as needed.
  • Technical Expertise: Author structural specifications, perform calculations for proper design, select construction procedures and materials, and ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Communication & Reporting: Utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to relay design concepts to team members, clients, and stakeholders. Prepare defensible engineering reports, memos, email correspondence, and site observation reports based on construction site visits.


Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis (Master's degree preferred).
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive structural engineering experience; at least 3 years of experience leading multidisciplinary project teams is preferred.
  • Technical Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of state building codes and applicable design standards such as ASCE, AISC, ACI, MSJC, NDS, etc. Proficiency in designing various structural materials including steel, concrete, masonry, wood, etc.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in structural engineering tools such as ETABS, SAFE, RISA, RAM, ENERCALC as well as office tools like Excel and Bluebeam.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with teams and stakeholders while producing high-quality documentation.


Additional Notes

While the majority of their projects focus on K-12, their portfolio extends to encompass higher education, government buildings, sports facilities, fire stations, and modifications to existing structures. While expertise in educational projects are advantageous qualities in potential candidates, they also welcome individuals with a strong academic background and relevant experience in general building design in Texas.
