The Supplier Development Engineer will support the Silfex internal and external supplier related development projects. Will work with suppliers to improve & develop next generation equipment, technologies, tooling, consumables, processes, subcontracting, outsourcing, and alternate solutions in support of Silfex business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides expertise in manufacturing processes critical to manufacturing at Silfex & subcontract partners (Silicon growing, grinding, drilling, electro discharge machining, lapping, polishing, bonding, cleaning, and metrology)
  • Manage and support suppliers to advance the state of the art for all applicable processes and equipment.
  • Manage and support suppliers with respect to subcontracting & outsourced manufacturing processes. (Technical Liaison between Silfex & Supplier)
  • Manage and support suppliers to perform technical root cause & failure analyses on all supplied consumables, equipment, products, and subcontract operations.
  • Project management of supplier new development effort (cradle to grave)
  • Coordinates development activities with suppliers in developing products, equipment, and consumables to meet Silfex requirements.
  • Assists in supplier assessments (with emphasis on manufacturing capabilities and process control) of new and existing suppliers.
  • Performing quality engineering examinations and evaluations of Silfex suppliers.
  • Managing projects and products relative to supplier manufacturing development, quality initiatives and supplier selection.
  • Lead problem solving at supplier sites as well as designing and conducting independent experiments and tests.
  • Working with a cross-functional teams consisting of supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to provide feedback and requirements during new equipment development, and production implementation.
  • Direct and manage equipment/manufacturing process/quality implementation that include a variety of process such as silicon growing, grinding, machining, lapping, polishing, precision cleaning as well as micro-hole drilling.
  • Provide design-for-manufacturing inputs for all aspects of product manufacturing and testing.
  • Ensure Silfex suppliers' manufacturing processes-domestic and international-are in place to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner.
  • Establish effective, well-defined Process of Record.
  • Develop and drive Silfex supplier improvement plans.
  • Assist with supplier visits (domestic and international) to evaluate and manage new and existing suppliers.
  • Assist in existing and new product development from a technical perspective.
  • Assist in continuous improvement activities with supply base.
  • Assist Supply chain team with long term development of suppliers.
  • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
  • Application of Lean manufacturing concepts, including 5S.
  • Perform all work-related tasks in a safe manner and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently; must be detail oriented.
  • Confident self-starter who demonstrates passion, ownership and self-awareness.
  • Carries out special projects and all other additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical discipline with a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience, or a Master's degree in engineering or a technical discipline with 6 years of hands-on experience, specifically in manufacturing processes, machine/tooling design, fixturing, CNC machining, EDM, and/or other machine shop practices.
  • High level knowledge - Fluent in Programming/interacting with Siemans CNC controllers
  • High level knowledge of Fanuc automated systems with PLC ladder logic and programming languages
  • Proven ability to gain partnerships and excel on a cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in or knowledge of standard manufacturing practices, ability to read drawings, understand interdependencies of multiple manufacturing processes, tolerances.
  • Expert working knowledge of process control plans, SPC, FMEA, and industrial problem solution techniques, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma working knowledge is desirable.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% both domestic and international.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to production personnel, top management, and public groups.
  • Ability to utilize computer applications such as Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Manufacturing software, and Statistical software.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the environment is moderate.
