Description:

The Sr Supplier Quality Engineer works to monitor, document, communicate, and improve on the quality of incoming parts used in Cadwell's industry-leading neurodiagnostic equipment, as well as business and supplier processes used in making those parts. This includes quality oversight of circuit board assemblies, cables, metals/plastics, and more. They oversee technical aspects of initial supplier qualification and subsequent re-qualifications. Additionally, they oversee technical aspects of both internal and external CAPAs related to supplier and contract manufacturer controls while collaborating with Operations, Quality, and R&D Engineering teams.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborates with Operations and Design Engineers to develop and deliver the Product Acceptance Sampling Strategy, Approved Supplier List coordination, Supplier owned Control Plans for new products.
  • Develops part qualification plans for new and revised part revisions. Determines which parts require inspection at incoming. Responsible for creation of inspection plan (frequency, dimensional/visual/functional requirements to sample, etc.) and is responsible for implementation and monitoring through the ERP system.
  • Responsible for immediate action to sourced-part quality issues at inspection, assembly, in the field, etc. Owns technical supplier communication as part of a multi-disciplined team on containment and replacement, collaborating with procurement team, incoming inspectors, and suppliers. Leads failure analysis efforts to determine root cause and corrective and preventative actions. Validates and verifies supplier actions for effectiveness.
  • Drives discussions with design engineering on first article review/approval, fit/form/function testing, necessary drawing changes, design and implementation for measurement tools/fixtures, recommending design and specification changes to improve yields and cost.
  • Assists in ensuring manufacturability and high yield through involvement with design and operations engineering teams; influences design from concept to release by reviewing concepts, attending design reviews, and assisting with evaluation prototypes.
  • Contributes to supplier and contract manufacturer selection, qualification, and re-qualification processes by planning and attending both on and off-site supplier quality systems audits.
  • Directly attends and observes the supplier manufacturing environment and processes to build an assessment of their overall capability and suitability. Drives needed process changes with suppliers as necessary to guarantee desired incoming part quality.
  • Identifies and investigates potential supply chain cost savings opportunities both internally and with suppliers. Supports cost savings initiatives through part/material/supplier qualification.
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risks along with associated preventive actions to avoid potential supplier quality issues utilizing experience, incoming inspection history, and supplier control plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of printed circuit board manufacturing processes, equipment, and limitations as well as best practices for both bare fabrication as well as populated assemblies.
  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated experience with coordinating supplier quality activities, including identification, communication, containment, and corrective actions.
  • Thorough knowledge of statistical analysis tools such as Cpk, Gage R&R, and statistical process control.
  • Thorough knowledge of electronics design processes, tools, and design transfer format types.
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated experience with electronics debugging.
  • Thorough knowledge of root-cause analysis tools and processes; familiar with formal methods of doing so such as Design of Experiments, Ishakawa/fishbone diagram, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards, such as IPC, AS9100, ISO 9001, etc.
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to cross-functional project teams; communicate effectively including presentations and reports, and drive corrective implementation activities.
  • Preferred thorough knowledge of injection-molded plastics used in electronics packaging, and their manufacturing processes.
  • Preferred working knowledge of sheet metal design and manufacture.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or equivalent worked experience.
  • Typically has greater than seven (7) years of relevant professional or technical engineering experience with five (5) years or more experience in the quality assurance field.
  • Experience with regulated equipment, preferably in a medical or similar safety-conscious, highly regulated industry.

Pay Range: $110,000 - $127,000 per year
