The Doctors Company Finance team has an opportunity for a Senior Tax Accountant. This is a hybrid opportunity based in our Napa, CA office.
Position Mission
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Tax, the Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for performing complex tax preparation, tax research and tax planning with minimal supervision. This position is expected to prepare federal and state income tax provisions and returns for insurance corporations and other entities. This role prepares internal memoranda, written correspondence/guidance and other documents for submission to the IRS or state departments of taxation; cross-trains with other staff; manages multiple returns and administers the tax calendar. This position also prepares and reviews quarterly and annual statement tax footnotes and provides support for the annual audit.

Salary Range: $101,990 - $118,989

Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Taxation
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent experience with a Big-Four accounting firm and/or a Masters Degree in Tax/Finance/Accounting or other related field.
- At least four to six (4-6) years tax experience with at least three (3) years of mid-level compliance work (complex returns, basic consolidate tax returns, partnerships)
- Understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles and SAP 101 calculations, desired but not required
- Experience filing consolidated tax returns
- Working knowledge of tax code, tax regulations, and compliance
- Progressive accounting experience in public accounting or similar work environment.
- Strong organization, oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, organization and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple filings and competing priorities is required
Responsibilities:
Income Tax Provisions
- Prepare accurate and timely tax provisions on both GAAP and STAT basis of accounting.
- Provide support for tax footnotes in financial statements produced by tax provisions and admissibility calculations.
- Maintain tracking of information that supports tax provisions for each quarter.
Income Tax Returns
- Prepare federal and state stand-alone and consolidated income tax returns and excise tax returns.
- Communicate with state agencies for discrepancies in filing and misunderstandings between revenue agencies and taxpayers.
- Work with Regulatory Compliance, Legal, Statutory filings and other departments to eliminate missed or duplicate filings.
- Maintain income tax status sheet.
- Track communications and compliance.
Audit Support
- Provide audit support and reconciliations to auditors and financial accounting staff as needed.
- Produce footnotes for annual filings and audits as needed.
Other duties as assigned
- Assists with a variety of department and company-wide projects including department research, surveys, and department audits.
- Makes oneself available for any and all duties.
- Accepts delegated tasks readily and completes assigned duties as direct.
- Other general administrative duties as requested.
Salary Range: $101,990 - $118,989
