Interacts with other engineering groups to define, document, analyze, perform and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications. Identifies functional problems and suggests resolutions. Documents and analyzes test cases and provides feedback and recommendations for product or design changes. Ensures testing procedures are in compliance with any required industry specific standards. Contributes to the development of improvements to overall testing and quality programs for improved results. May coordinate with vendors or suppliers to modify or develop testing for components or other parts.

Senior Test Engineer

Position Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Develops and executes test plans for developmental and/or production firearms, and provides final reports.
  • Conducts tests on the various components of the firearms system or complete system and evaluates the test results.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
  • Designs and coordinates with production, product development teams and engineering leadership in fabrication of testing and test control apparatus and equipment.
  • Directs and coordinates mechanical engineering activities concerned with development, procurement, installation, and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices required to test product, components of a firearms, firearms systems, ammunition, or supporting equipment.
  • Determines conditions under which tests are to be conducted and sequences and phases of test operations.
  • Directs and exercises control over operational, functional, and performance phase of tests.
  • Confers with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation.
  • Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel.
  • Develops or uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on products and systems.
  • Coordinates with the Engineering & Product Development Teams to evaluate, analyze, and make recommendations on products, designs, and cost improvements to improve the competitive position of the company.
  • Work with Engineering and Product Development Teams to establish performance criteria and establishing production performance targets.
  • Testing may include live fire or development of firing simulations to establish test results.
  • Coordinate internal or external resources to execute test plan or execute plan personally based on testing requirements.
  • Works to aggressive timelines to achieve required results.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, team members and/or clients.
  • Understand MOA, standard deviation, mean radius.
  • Ability to travel offsite for testing and/or overseeing testing.


Education and/or Experience
  • BS in Engineering and a minimum of 7 years experience working on a weapons test team preferred. Other equivalent education and relevant operating experience in a test environment will be considered.
  • Experience with measuring components dimensionally.
  • Must be experienced shooter that can produce repeatable small groups. This will be achieved from either shoulder fire or a designed shooting apparatus from 100 yards to 1760 yards.
  • Experience with hand loading ammunition for optimal precision.
  • Experience as a team leader in formal weapons test programs, understanding of building written testing protocols, test plans, gathering all and reporting all data delivered for the individual tests.
  • Computer literate with all basic/advanced computer software, to include but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, SolidWorks, and other engineering software.


Travel

Some travel may be required to attend industry trade shows and/or shooting events.
